You must be exaggerating. I have a SD960 and it kicked the crap out of my 3G, and I'm no photographer to speak of. I can set a custom white balance, aperture and focus off-center if I want. With my 3G there isn't much control at all. My

It'd be interesting to see how your (and other's) setup have endured actual attacks. As someone non-versed in security, I think your approach sounds great. But how does it fare when someone comes knocking? I wonder the same thing about my

This. A thousand times this. I use perforce for my daily work, and all too often I'll get to a stopping point and think to myself that my approach isn't working - usually I'll wrap my stuff up in a changelist and save the diff off to a fil

I think it's probably more that the Android apps team has a higher budget/headcount than the iPhone apps team (I have no idea, but just a guess).

Isn't this sort of a sanity-level thing you'd check in QA? You know, install the app and boot it?

I think this is one of the places where Win8's tablet interface will gain fans. I've seen the developer preview and being able to snap windows to the side and get a "mini mode" (or whatever it's called) is really cool.

The latest iOS 4 version (I think it's 4.2.1?) is better than iOS 4.0, but it's still slower than 3.1.3. The only reason why I had iOS 4 on my 3G was app compatibility. I eventually was frustrated enough to go back to 3.1.3 and it was like

I wonder where the operator has to stand. Maybe it takes it one side at a time? Otherwise you'd see camera guys hiding behind trees and such, which is an amusing thought.

Yeah, $249 is way too much. I'd be pressed to spend more than $30 on a thermostat when the one I have works good enough. Programming my current one is like pulling teeth, but I only do it once a year or so (if that). I keep it low and don

There's an amusing prank where you call two Chinese restaurants: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iz9ra9FqNKQ (I think they pulled this prank on a late night show as well, I can't find the video though.)

Sometimes they can surprise you: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3109213/sfb.jpg My daughter was almost 3 when she drew this. Most of her stuff doesn't come out like this, but I saved this one since it was weirdly real.

There's something universal about the struggle between IT and students in schools. It's definitely a breeding ground for creativity and information sharing.

Indeed. I've heard the adage "when you're on your death bed, are you going to wish that you spent more time in the office?" and I tend to agree with it. It's not easy to find a job (or purpose) so great that we wish to stay on this earth a

Reminds me of a thought I had about babies: How does that little bunch of cells grow into a living, breathing human being? Surely there isn't enough information in there to do that. Answer: It can't, and it doesn't. Not without the mother.

So let's all make our own clothes, grow our own foods, invent our own pastimes, work random hours, ignore road signs, and build our own cars. There's a happy middle, and I think we're approaching it (given the mobile ecosystem, from both si

What I don't understand is why the earpiece couldn't also double as an "external" speaker. They're about the same size.

I'd like to think it went mainstream. You can still find those same discussions, but they've gone to the subreddits (which was a fantastic idea, by the way). Maybe HN should do something similar.
