The latest iOS 4 version (I think it's 4.2.1?) is better than iOS 4.0, but it's still slower than 3.1.3. The only reason why I had iOS 4 on my 3G was app compatibility. I eventually was frustrated enough to go back to 3.1.3 and it was like having a new phone again.
