We don't bill per second, so this really doesn't apply. Our customers see it almost instantly if we're down though, so it matters a lot. Besides, that switch you're talking about just doesn't work out of the box. We

It isn't satire, and I fail to see how what I said is HDD. I haven't mentioned the word scale once, that first paragraph is out of your imagination. I worked with PostgreSQL, work currently with MySQL and Cassandra. With Cassandra

When people criticize "NoSQL" databases they always conveniently forget the high availability part that most non-relational databases provide. When I need HA, I'm going to chose something like Cassandra, not MySQL or even Pos

They can do whatever they want, I just hope nobody follows their path because as a user sysvinit is objectively worse than systemd.

Yeah, after an upgrade of Caddy on my server the syncthing ui broke. Not sure why but with timeouts the ui just doesn't work. It was a little surprising but I think it's more a problem syncthing should solve.

Exactly. I hope this doesn't gain traction because last thing I want as someone just writing services is dealing with sysvinit

Wait, how does that help build time exactly ? It may help with the perceived build time, but your CI builds are still taking the same (long) time.

Probably nowhere because 1) never happens 2) is a non-issue and 3) too probably 99% of the time.

Yeah same, the only problems we've had with our cluster has been disks, RAID 5 is a bad idea with Kafka. Other than that we've been running our cluster for almost 2 years now with the same 32GB servers, never once had a problem wi

All this is necessary because people don't expect or don't want to put their code/projects under $GOPATH/src. My take on it is don't fight the GOPATH, because a lot of Go tooling expects your code to be in a valid G

I don't understand how HN ranks posts: this was at the very top with just 9 points, no comments, how does that work exactly ?

It's right there in the post: > To solve this problem, we investigated a number of other Python runtimes. Each had trade-offs and none solved the concurrency problem without introducing other issues.
