the curl you get on powershell is absolutely not the same. The output of curl -v is totally different. And no, even if you develop web apps you don't necessarily have Python installed. If I wrote node, or C#, or Go, or PHP exclusively,

oh you're talking about consumer offsets ! I exclusively use kafka to store offsets since I started using kafka with 0.8.0.2 so I can set my offsets by using the kafka protocol only

having your client modify the ZK data is not a good idea, you're bound to cause problems.

I don't understand what is difficult about thé kafka protocol. as a client you only ever need to talk to the broker. this uses a binary protocol that is really straightforward to implement. any language that can work with binary and ca

this isn't my experience at all. setting up zookeeper is super easy and ZK is rock solid. there really is no need to pay anyone to setup ZK, it takes maybe an afternoon to automate setting up a cluster

How do you use ansible to deploy your containers, if I may ask ? We're looking into the docker module right now, but I don't know if it's good or what. Currently we're launching container via systemd and manage the unit

Would you happen to have some code online I can look at which use this technique ? I first saw Casey Muratori from https://handmadehero.org/ use an approach like this and used the same approach in a small project of mine. I

And when the library is not packaged in the repo, should I then build the package myself ? If we were in an ideal world we would do that, but unfortunately we're not, and in my experience it's way easier for the dev AND for the sy

How do you not bundle in dependencies when coding in, say, Java ? The Java packages on Debian are for the most part outdated. It's way more practical to just use Maven, build a fat jar and be done with it.

From experience you don't tend to see tags very often other than when decoding/encoding JSON. If you use an ORM maybe you use tags as well. Other than that, their usage (at least to me after working with Go for a year now) is limi

There's a log compaction cleanup policy yes. Never used it myself but if I'm not mistaken it works like this: for each message you send to Kafka, you set a key with it. When Kafka does log compaction, it keeps only the last value

You could always map the document id or channel id to be always the same partition, then that particular document or channel log would be ordered. Seems like it would work.

That talk was great. We introduced Kafka at my work probably 3-4 months ago, at first only to track events from our webservices, but eventually it became the backbone of communication between our services. The Java library for the consumer

You need quite a few more method to be a net.Conn actually: http://golang.org/pkg/net/#Conn . Easier to just overwrite the Write() method like this in that case.
