I have seen plenty of curl | sh invocations that pass the "-k" flag to curl, meaning that curl will allow insecure connections even if there are invalid SSL/TLS certificates.

There's a really important point that everybody is missing here. Transcribing phone calls is, in a sense, equivalent to recording a call. Having automatic transcription may not even be legal without letting the other party know.

I feel like a big part of the problem is that back when computers were newly introduced to the world at large, there were actually good tutorials on how to use them. Consider the Windows 3.1 interactive mouse tutorial/Windows tutorial.

Except it's not that easy. Web developers have been trying to remove user choice all the time - disabling right-click menus, preventing copying on websites, forcing the page to look blank unless you turn JavaScript on - and yet it'

It would never get passed, though. The government relies on being able to force companies to lie to people for things like criminal investigations and so on.

It wouldn't be too difficult to work out which app/site you're using given profiling data on which hosts are contacted during typical runs, and that data can be generalised in cases where the services use multiple names.
