Tom Scott yesterday made a video for laypeople on the topic of 'black box' machine learning and how it can be difficult to get it to behave as you want, too.[0] It's an interesting watch - I'd recommend it if you're

It's not actually said that "3" should swap with it - it's a substitution for that symbol. It's a proposal to post normally but to omit any symbols that don't fit by just not typing anything.

There's that, but there's also the fact that they invoke a musical number from the movie at the same time ("Be Our Guest") making this response in itself a bit of an ad.

It's also worth noting that in MySQL, the replace command is deprecated in 5.7.18 and removed in MySQL 8. [0] I don't know its status in MariaDB. [0] https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/repl

Perhaps if JavaScript did not exist, those apps would be using something separate to the Web, and the Web would have remained a mostly non-interactive, read-only medium. You're overestimating the importance of JavaScript here. phpBB

You actually can do something like this with Firefox. If you load Firefox with the "-ProfileManager" switch (and you don't have another Firefox window open; see below for how to get round this), it'll open a window where

In addition to this, it's important to note that in a .mid file (or, more accurately, a Standard MIDI File), a track is deliberately quite similar to a stream of MIDI data. There are some changes, obviously (among other things, timing

I don't really know much about playing MIDIs on a Mac, unfortunately, as I'm a PC person. The only options I know of are paid; for example, GarageBand ( https://www.apple.com/mac/garageband/ ) can open and

Thanks for the report! Things should be fixed now. :) Technically, it's probably GarageBand that's wrong here, but I've changed AutoMIDIFlip so that GarageBand should be happy. What was happening is that the original file is

That sounds like a good idea. Props to your teacher - I might try that myself, as there are a few things I've been interested in learning on the left hand but have had trouble with.

It probably wouldn't sound terribly great; the site doesn't make any attempt to make sure that the flipped version is in the same key as the original (and in fact that would be extremely difficult, if not impossible), so you'

I wrote AutoMIDIFlip based on the #midiflip challenge going around Twitter right now - basically, take a MIDI file, flip it so that the intervals are preserved but in the opposite direction, and see what it sounds like. It actually has some

Reading the page, it sounds like they're talking about the "torrentfs" mounted filesystem component, where read requests will download just that part of the file. So theoretically, you could open the archive in a GUI, extract

That's true, but the whole point of the strip was that you use words that evoke an easily-memorable scene in your head. That will probably mean you can confine your list to words that most people know, which reduces the search space si

Unfortunately, if they don't or are forced by policy, then you've just told the Internet your security answers. If I were you I'd edit that and reword it without specifics.

Phone status I'll agree is useful, but there's no need for a music-playing app to control BT pairing - the phone can do that itself.

When I said that user profiles weren't really a thing, I meant that they really didn't save much different per-user unless your network was set up to have roaming user profiles, which is what I meant about the enterprise networkin

You're actually very wrong about that, but it's easy to miss thanks to clever coding on Microsoft's part in Windows 95/98/NT4. Program Manager in Windows 3.x would actually store its "program groups" in .G

You're correct that DOS itself (MS-DOS, at least) has no networking support, but you might be surprised to learn that DOSBox does natively have networking support - in more ways than one. On the DOS side of things, you can configure

I wasn't trying to say that intellectual property didn't exist. I think it's obvious that it does, at least in some form. (Heck, the patent system is builton the very idea.) Perhaps in an 'ideal' world, IP wouldn&#x
