I did it on my first debugging project where I had to teach myself assembly. Had no idea it was a special task! Just knew it had to get done, got “some program called soft ice” to do it, got to work.

IDK. I had a problem because a company snuck their encryption scheme into their device driver. No problem with softice, today/now, it might be harder.

I don’t remember any scripting or even great tutorials or anything in the softice days. If you were using softice, you were definitely a step above a script kiddie.

Yea. I take the ancient part as a personal attack! I used SoftIce to crack some blowfish licensing scheme of a company that went under. It was eye opening to be able to pause Windows 95 completely. That sometimes I’d be stepping through cod

I can’t edit my other post anymore, but I it’s worse than I thought. I’m not sure the PERC 740 supports nvme at all. Only examples I can find are S140/S150 software raid. No idea if 7.68TB RAID1 over two drive with software RAID is muc

I need to think about this for a second. You’re saying the performance gains stop at two drives in raid striping. RAID10 in two strip two mirror would still bottleneck at 8 total lanes? I also need to see about the PERC being limited to 8 l

PERC HP740 controllers in Dell servers iirc are hardware raid for the flex port U.2 and backplane pcie nvme drives.

Ah I see. It wasn’t that they didn’t secure parts of the cert, it’s that they assumed they didn’t need to add some data. The generator was assumed standard... and surely no one would ever abuse that intention!

So... Wait, they weren't calculating the signature based on ALL the contents of the cert? There was an "unprotected" section in the cert that allowed for curve details? This seems... too obviously bad.

If you’re going to allocate like that you could use 8s and get any multiple you like, no? I’ll give you that there are times for performance you want the native system type. But I would still prefer to use uint32_t and specify this was opti

Depends. If you use size_t all the time, you may forget or have someone else forget that another system isn’t the same. If you always use uint8_t or int64_t etc there is no ambiguity. If I intended this to be an 32bit var, it will be regard

Mostly. There are 12-16 byte hash or hash-like results are plenty secure. They’re keyed though. The output from HMAC and AEAD ciphers with no encryption (think the additional data portion of ChaCha20-Poly1305 in a Nonce-MAC mode)... or mayb
