In the grand scheme of things, the user base of HN is relatively small. Now, divide that into a much smaller number and that's the potential user base for your site. My point with this is that targeting only HN users for something like this

I would at least have a "plan" before you quit your job. You suggest that you're at a well paying job, so it would be a shame to quit only to figure out that after 3-4 months you realize you had it pretty good. In regards to working for som

I actually like this site quite a bit. I use Grooveshark all the time and find it difficult to "explore" new music on it. Perhaps if this site makes that easier then I will use it often. Also, perhaps some form auto complete suggestions as

Perhaps Twitter has the better solution? Why not direct messages to a single user, or hash tag, etc? It's basically a way of sending messages to only a set of recipients that wants to receive it. In your case though, there'd also be a level

Consider the coding project at work an investment in yourself. You're right, this isn't college anymore. Your performance at work and in groups directly affects your co-workers perception of you. Sure, if you truly hate the place then you p

Build what kind of things? Is this a website, desktop application, iphone application, lincoln log cabin, what? You'd probably get better email responses if you specified at least some of the technical skills that you're seeking.

I chose Eclipse over Textmate earlier this year. As a user of mostly Python, Javascript, HTML and CSS, Eclipse has provided my ideal programming setup. All of my code, for all of my projects, resides on a development server of mine (Ubuntu)

Well, it's a nifty idea and I know I've seen that trend on Facebook before. But that's also the problem - it's a 1 time use fad type thing. I don't know how much I'd invest in the current incarnation - perhaps just enough to keep the site f

Just be sure that the stubborn one is not you. Your dislike of the following mentality might indicate that this could be the case - "use Z because it makes sense even though you've poured your heart&soul in X over the last few years."

Well, Sphinx ( http://sphinx.pocoo.org/ ) generates really good Python documentation. Perhaps if you were able to come up with something that also generated nice documentation, but was language agnostic, that might be cool. I'm also a fan o

Now that it's clear that this is a hosted MySQL service, how can we be sure it's reliable? You claim to be very scalable and reliable - well, what makes you that way? For example, we know MongoHQ runs on Amazon's infrastructure. These are m

Ok. You never mention MySQL anywhere on your website. If anything, it sounded to me like ClearDB was an actual new database. Perhaps you should make it much more clear that you're providing a service and that it's based on a well known data

Usually when I'm thinking about domain names I also weight in the marketability factor. Would the domain name potentially make a nice main logo as-is, or would it be kind of bland? In the case of cant and cannot.com, I think I would opt for
