Haha I’d think a better comparison would be (an explosion-free) Fight Club.

Even systems without a profit motive will have to economize, and therefore will track resource usage and discourage waste. The NHS still has e.g. PSAs telling people not to go to the emergency room for non-emergencies.

Wow, you didn’t notice the one I just listed even after I listed it? That level of ignorance takes effort! As for telemetry, I’m talking about this particular incident, where the “user studies” feature was used to force an unrelated update:

Just like you probably dismissed the significance of banning unsigned addons until Mozilla forgot to update the certs and we had that worldwide extension outage?

Right. They keep the config settings around. They just start ignoring the value, like in the case of allowing unsigned extensions. Or anything related to telemetry and user experiments.

HN doesn't have downvotes on topics/submissions, which IMHO is part of the problem. You can only flag. But there are a lot of stories that don't rise to the level of "this is totally inappropriate/spam", but al

Haha, you're not wrong. I think it was actually more like 8pm, shortly before I left to live it up. But either way, transacting near the new year shouldn't break financial systems.

Haha yeah for the past tax year I I looked at my transaction history and it was missing some that I expected to be there. Turns out, the exchange (Gemini, for crypto) uses UTC, but the IRS docs always tell you that a cutoff is relative to y

And as written, someone that didn't already know about it would make a false inference about what kind of people would be marked as radioactive. I was pre-empting that (very likely) false inference. The fact that you didn't explic

I wasn't making the comparison, I was correcting a misrepresentation you made about the US credit scoring system only penalizing you for not paying debts.

No, it's based on a lot more than that, like how long you've been in the system, and average age of account. This is why you can be radioactive despite never having missed a payment on anything -- because you never carried debt.

I had a lot of fun with these! Only complaint is that in section 4 the deliverable becomes increasingly vague. Edit: also, a surprising observation about it: the challenges fall into two categories: A) implement this off-the-shelf standard

The idea came up before on HN[1], where the upshot is, banks don't do this, because if they sell the loan at all, they sell a bunch at once, and there are game-theoretic reasons not to encourage this kind of deal. But Denmark gives you

There are people who claim they “told you so” all along, who had heard about bitcoin in 2011[1]… and it’s still up 100x since then. ”But you could say the same of a legit Ponzi scheme or fraud!” No, not really. Those crash after the details
