I was going to seriously disagree with you, and then I looked at their source code. It's awful. I would still buy from them because their reputation trumps any concerns.

It is not fundamentally different from for example MS Office being a large binary blob. We don't have the source code, it is proprietary, and a company controls it. At the same time, a group of guys trained a model that plays go, it ca

Just in network costs, there's a huge asymmetry. Uploading data to AWS is free. Downloading data from them, you have to pay. When you have enough data, that cost is quite significant.

NPM is a nightmare that makes old style C++ dependency management look like a next-gen wonder. It's hundreds, thousands of silly dependencies taking countless disk space, and a waste of time "minimizing" what should have neve

I think there are several reasons for that. John Nash was right, and MAD has been a factor in global issues since then. But some other factors could also have some influence: The aftermath of WWII did show the world that for a nation, engag

I think the two factors leading to this are: - Covid, and the quarantine, forcing people to buy new computers to use at home, and giving them the freedom to choose operating system, in contrast to work computers. - Steam, giving people an e

Even when I am forced to use Windows, I develop on Ubuntu inside a Virtual Machine. About 80% of the developers at my company do the same. Only a few are happy with just Windows. So, I would prefer if they prioritize Linux and leave Windows

On the one hand, these are just EPUBs, nothing in the article makes the generated EPUBs different or incompatible from the ones I usually read. On the other hand: this looks awesome for the Web. Mix it with a blog platform like Medium, and

And between PDF and EPUB, I always choose the EPUB variant, because in my laptop it definitely looks better, with the text the right size and sane pagination. I don't jump to page 2112, I use the table of contents to jump to section 3.

I was under the impression only Gentoo users recompile everything. In a statically linked system, your dependency manager will update more packages. And if your program is written in C/C++/Go/Rust, then yes, it will be recomp
