That's not what people mean by AI safety - they're referring to the dangers of uncontrollable or runaway AI. Particularly AGI.

Doomsaying is not a sexy look. If it could help, it's worth the effort to at least try, otherwise why bother doing anything.

I still honestly believe coding should be a requirement in all philosophy courses. A system for layout out logical structures efficiently was something philosophy to this day sorely lacks, with formal logic being practically unreadable. And

Yeah but this ain't an iceberg, it's a leak. Gradual improvement CAN fix it as long as people don't panic or give up.

I actually think I disagree with this. Yes it'd be incorrect some of the time, but that is also true of humans. Provided it gets it right most of the time and is reasonably fluent, I don't think that minor errors would matter much

Wow, this is so cool! xD I think this is the strongest usecase for AI I've seen so far. I'd love some more details on how you made it - how are you handling the speech to text? It's so clean, I was amazed it could understand

The classic is rhubarb crumble, a baked dessert typically eaten with custard. It's delightfully sweet and sour, a favourite of mine as a kid.

Funny, many of the places with the lowest birth rates are actually very socially conservative, with poor track records on gender equality. Japan, Korea, Russia, etc. I've heard people argue the exact opposite - intense work cultures ti

I've not heard about that being a big issue here on the first place, and it absolutely doesn't justify the blatant dismantling of our democracy. They've been gradually pushing fascist laws into place for years, this is just t

To be honest, I kinda feel AI porn is actually more ethical than the current porn industry. Much like written or drawn porn, it does not rely on the objectification of actual people. Instead it can fill a niche without hurting anyone. There

I will say, autism is super common among trans folk, as is ADHD. There is a high rate of comorbidity between them. Having said that, I do not believe that it is fair to assume a person who believes themselves trans to be mistaken based pure

This is true, but the only way you're going to fix that problem is to start trying. Expertise can be built, even rebuilt, it's just difficult. Plus, money DOES allow you to hire outside consultants and teachers. Decentralising the

What they protest about does not matter. Removing the ability to protest does. If you allow them to crack down on protesting, then it won't be long before we're getting black-bagged, and dear old aunty will go on "extended ho

That is not true. The tech required to maintain long-term living on Mars would be extremely valuable here on earth. It is directly relevant to many of our current goals for more sustainable lifestyles. Much like the moon missions, the sid

From an energy-efficiency perspective, the difference is negligible. Getting out of the gravity well is by far the biggest hurdle. From there you might as well just give it a gentle push over to mars.

It is worth mentioning that there is a survivorship bias inherent to this problem. The older designs that were well made tended to be the one that lasted, and so become the ones we see today, whereas the poor quality old designs already fai

With you here on this. Telemetry is a really important concern and I get why people don't like it, but fundamentally the expectations on a beta product surely have to be different in that. The thing is still in development. T

If it actually worked, then maybe this would make sense, (though I believe the negative social effects of that approach FAR outweigh the dubious positive). But in a case like this, where it was precisely a LACK of thought that marked it as
