When I learnt about this in design school, I went ahead and created a quick and dirty web app that'd construct the canon for me, instead of having to draw a bunch of geometry on paper. Here are the links to [1] the app, [2] the blog po

Wil Shipley has always been my programming hero, growing up. I spent a lot of time reading his Pimp my Code series, and learned quite a few things about Cocoa from him. Not only is he a great coder, he's also an incredibly compelling w

That is actually incorrect. Many here have replied that only 83(b) elections only pertain to RSUs. In fact, it also applies to early-exercised ISOs; when you buy the shares before they actually vest. Source: I've done this. I've e

I think this is a fallacy. Easy deployment has nothing to do with why PHP is still this popular; I think it has a lot more to do with PHP being beginner-friendly, in that when things break, they always semi-work as opposed to leaving the wa

Valuing any company by comparing it to Twitter, a company many consider to be crazily overvalued, seems somewhat inaccurate... I'm sure the Dropbox board has a better idea of what the company is actually worth.

I'm having a hard time understanding how, 1. Facebook figures Snapchat is worth $3B, and 2. Snapchat figures Snapchat is worth more than that, and refuses the offer. The valuation multiples lately have gotten me to wonder what I'm

Wow… I had no idea people still remembered Twinkle. I was one of the engineers at Tapulous, back in the day, and worked briefly on Twinkle. That service was actually a huge disaster for us. The users were mostly tweens, and we had a huge Ch

I've been using Square Cash for a few months, and it's worked flawlessly. (A friend used it to send me money, and I jumped on the bandwagon; didn't even realize it was pre-release!) Square is attacking the consumer payment ma

This is huge. I recently spent ~$200 on AT&T's $30/120MB bundles on a two-week trip to Europe. I thought I was getting a good deal, too. It's fantastic to see the market shifting slightly in favor of the customers.

For what it's worth, I was dissatisfied with most Ruby frameworks (aka. Rails & Sinatra), so when it came time to build up a massive project on a Ruby backend, I rolled my own minimal (<1kloc) Ruby framework. https://

Swatch already tried this with the Swatch Beat ("Swatch Internet Time")[1]. I actually owned a beat-capable watch for a while. I think the beat was better in that it was easier to reason relative to the day: a day was 1000 beat, a

I think the currency should have been specified in this poll. It's a little ambiguous as to whether this should be read as GBP or USD. (Though I imaging most responses would have used the former.)

I wrote this comment with the assumption that we all understand the security implications of what's going on, which is why I probably did a poor job of making my point. However, I think that relying on a single easy-to-compromise security t

I don't understand why a secret token is even necessary. This seems like bad design. As a matter of principle, the server should never trust the client. If authentication is necessary, it should be done on every request. If that is the case
