Considering the Porsche 911 is still made today and looks just as good today as it did 40 years ago, I think it qualifies as "timeless." Compare a black 911 Carrera: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/24/91... And toda

This is an admirable effort, but I would not recommend ever using this in practice. I am saying this from experience: I wrote a game engine on top of UIKit, which I spent months trying to fine-tune before finally ditching it and re-writing

A much more common use of iptables for me is to limit outside traffic to port 21, 80, and 447, while letting whitelisted internal hosts use every other ports, for other services used internally. We can then run those services without authen

I'm pretty sure that it's not completely random. 4-year vesting schedules are common in the industry amongst companies that provide stock or stock options as compensation. Considering that that form of compensation ends on your fourth anniv

I agree, but that also depends on the offender. In a way, you could make an argument that prison should not have timed sentences, but rather that it should be "you stay until it is deemed that you will not offend again, and that you can be

If you watch the video embedded, you'll see that he actually ran a large network that smuggled cocaine from Miami to Seattle. A little more serious than the kid who sells an 8-ball to his college classmate.

While I agree with the premise of the article; the author's proposal is somewhat ridiculous. It faces pretty much all the same problems as OpenID.

I find it horrifying how many developers are perfectly happy having warnings in their code. On the projects I manage, warnings are unacceptable, and treated as errors. We will not release an update until it builds without warnings.

I fully support GitHub's right to do whatever they want, but I can't help but find this slightly distasteful. This is affirmative action, which I disagree with in principle.

Lucky :). But that's my point: It's not even first-come first-serve anymore, it's a server-load-powered lottery.

Put bluntly: this is bullshit. The advance notice was slightly better than last year, but the website was intermittently down for the entire two minutes tickets were on sale. I was there, trying to buy them at 9:59am, at 10:00:20am the we

I agree with immigration when it benefits the country. It's like when you hire an employee for your company: you're only going to go through with it if the transaction is mutually beneficial (keeping in mind the associated costs), which fro

I'm a Swiss citizen living in San Francisco, and while I don't necessarily agree with restrictive immigration policies (I'm in the process on getting a US green card – don't get me started on how stressful that is), I also don't see anythin

The part that I find the most repulsive about this – aside from the fact that the school got itself into debt by borrowing money to gamble it, and then lost it – is that its board of trustees went from a visionary model of free tuition, and

Not true: DNS servers can be configured with multiple A records for a single hostname, and the traffic will be spread round-robin. A DNS query will resolve to a different IP for different clients. At Chartboost, our systems are configured w

Chartboost got rejected from YC in S11. These days we're at $21M in funding led by Sequoia for Series B and ~55 employees. :) It's not the end of the world.

I've been a Cocoa developer for close to a decade now, and I've gone back and forth on this many times, but by now I've settled 100% in the nibs-are-evil camps. There are several reasons for that: - Nibs are a nightmare when working with ve

I don't think growth in Alexa rank is a good metric, because it does not measure growth as typically defined (in %age increase in raw traffic). Unfortunately that makes the entire table mostly meaningless.
