Doesn't the lack of intellectual challenge in your work stress you? I don't think I could do such a mundane job and still feel fulfilled. (I mean that without an ounce of judgement—just remarking about the shift from academia

I'd say it's like blaming Toyota for the traffic jams when you close lanes on the bay bridge. Or alternatively like planing the SF Giants or AT&T Park for the traffic jams when you close lanes on the bay bridge.

That's a fair complaint. The PBKDF2 answer is quite satisfactory (though I think that these days 10k iterations is warranted). What I'm much more concerned about though is the server-side encryption of the notes[1]. Having the not

Yes, that's a fair point. I agree with you. PS: Ugh, not sure what I said that was so controversial. Always annoying to get downvoted for no reason. Oh HN.

A cloud wallet in and of itself is not a bad idea; it just needs to be secured appropriately. Multi-sig support is probably key here. You could have the best of both convenience and security with a 2-of-3 setup, where you keep one key in co

Love it. One thing I miss from GitHub's native UI, functionally, is the ability to link to headings. I feel like that should be preserved. Also, a light theme alternative would be nice.

Which brings up the question: what's the point of keeping the original company? You're unlikely to have as much equity in a company with so much history as opposed to if you were to found a new company. This reminds me somewhat of

It doesn't; I leave it to Apple's code to handle the encryption aspect. That said, I'd imagine that it uses PBKDF2 to derive a key from the password. The content itself is encrypted with AES-256. Here's what `man hdiutil

There's a much easier way to build the same functionality: use encrypted sparse disk images. See the `hdiutil` command line tool. I used this many years ago to build a Mac app with the exact same functionality, and probably much safer

You should optimize your RUN commands. Every time you RUN in a Dockerfile, it creates a new filesystem layer. There's a hard limit (42, iirc) to the number of layers that Docker can support. Instead of doing: RUN echo bar >>

I once contrived a Y-Combinator-backed and memoized implementation of fib() in pure C (with the blocks extension for real closures). It was a mess, but it was pretty cool: http://kswizz.com/post/50429268286/fibonac

If the has were really looked up by value, like in the example SQL: SELECT pk, hash, file_path FROM image_hashes WHERE hash = '4c8e3366c275650f'; This is screaming to be stored in a bloom filter.
