Yes, and I was thoroughly disappointed by this result. So - new challenge: a radiation hardened quine in less than two times the characters of the equivalent non-radiation hardened version.

I would build this switch with two IR sensors on each side of the console. If the arm and hand touching the screen is approaching from the passenger side, many things are possible. If the car is in motion and the arm is approaching from the

Lovely, but one fairly critical problem - for the 88% of people who are right handed, driving in the 35% of the driving world that drives on the left, they'll need to operate the centre console with their non-dominant hand.

Perhaps it's not a valid assumption - but does it matter? A large chunk of the point of the 2.0 regulation model (the graphic in the OP) is that over time reputation is crowd-sourced. Can we not just live with the existence of sleazy c

I think some crossing [of fingers] might be in order. HN has a weird hatred of Quora, so if anyone ever finds out how internet-famous you are there, there could be trouble!

So Oliver had 86 karma before posting this. Assuming this marks the start of his intent to post all his 2014 articles, I shall enjoy observing how rapidly this number blossoms...

I've been noticing this too. HN has a definite bias against Quora that stems back to the early stories about its blocking content from non-members.

For anyone confused by all the Python nomenclature (hint: Cython != CPython!) this article: http://www.toptal.com/python/why-are-there-so-many-pythons was on HN a few days back, and is worth a read.

If this gets popular, I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if Coca Cola sues them. That logo is a very similar red, and a similar "dynamic ribbon device".

It's not hugely complex to create interlocks such that the cabin occupancy is monitored and the locks are opened when the cabin has fewer than two occupants. I can't immediately think of a completely failsafe version, but I suspec

There's plenty of data on the world wide web that pertains to you but isn't linked to Facebook - yet. AI that can do context aware authorship analysis could have huge returns for Facebook.

I find this a surprisingly good explanation of the benefits of functional programming, not just a how-to guide for the library. It probably helps that I've read LYAH first however...

Where did you see that it's from August 2012? I recall a claim in August 2010 by Vinay Deolalikar of the opposing view, but haven't seen much public attention since. Ah - I see now. Gotcha.
