I don't think that is the case. Trained people will go A -> C. Also careless people will go A -> C, because it is easier to make a mistake when skipping the partial steps.

I am not a fan of dividing machine learning and deep learning. To me deep learning is just a subset of machine learning.

One reason is that the implementations are much more difficult. In k-d trees you have to deal with the distance from hyperrectangles. It is not something you would write in 30 minutes. Also k-d trees don't scale much in higher dimensio

I think that it is necessary to make a compromise between absolute robustness and readability, maintainability etc. I hope that the input to the program is sensible enough that floating point overflow won't be an issue, since there are

You are right that in this isolated problem it would make sense. However, this is actually a classifier so the idea is to maximize the margin in the split.

Why use the derogaroty 'too cheap'? Maybe they are just not 'too stupid' to pay more than they have to.

Perhaps it is you that need to be educated. They are independent only if you explicitly state that you are computing them for best/average/worst case independently. Is it commonly done? Sure. But there is nothing in the definition

Actually we don't use it informally as big-Theta, because big-Theta assumes that the lower and upper bound are asymptotically the same. For example Quicksort is O(n^2) but Omega(nlogn) it is neither Theta(nlogn) nor Theta(n^2). You pro

I believe it is, because as Elon Musk said, education is like a tree. These people learn about the leafs of a tree (specific tools) but don't learn about the trunk and branches that hold them (fundamental CS educaton).

C++ is vastly different animal than C in this case. Most of the problems with C you are implying here are non issues in modern C++.

We are OK with it because almost always we don't know a better way. Every time we use statistics and have certain finite sample size, these confidence intervals will emerge.

Why do you care what someone else is willing to pay for? What is the problem exactly when someone hires a consultant and pays him from his own pocket? You are free to spend your money as you wish.

Because every class has overriden operators right? You are basically trying to compare bad code in C++ with great code C. Of course the C wins then.

But even then C++ is basically cost free if used correctly. Of course I am not comparing it with some hypothetical hand optimized assembly, but specifically when considering cache alignment C++ has massive advantage in this area compared to

I wrote it mainly not to be so dismissive about the article because I haven't read it that carefully. With that said trees are also build to support fast deletion so that is one extra requirement that is not needed for incremental sort
