AFAIK those language features are all handled in the frontend before outputting LLVM IR. LLVM optimization, code generation, linking, etc. should all be the same regardless of the source language.

If JIT is such a problem then Apple shouldn't use it themselves. Sure, they let you disable it but it's still enabled by default while everyone pushes the narrative that Apple is all about security.

Parsec has a driver which adds virtual monitors so you should be able to use that instead of a dummy HDMI plug. Another issue is not having a mouse plugged in will mean you have no mouse cursor when remoting in.

It's basically a hard requirement on consoles because they just can't render games at full resolution.

Sure, they're more limited but Unity actually has very good and accessible profiling tools included. It'd be easy for most developers to get quick wins if they've never optimized their game before.

Steam has a verification process to determine which games work properly on the Steam Deck. If you follow that then you should have no issues playing your games on a Steam Deck.

What you are looking for is a render scale option. It is usually specified as a percentage of your display resolution but could also be combined with upscaling (DLSS, FSR, XeSS, etc.) options. It's something that is up to the game deve

The Steam Deck is just a PC - nothing is locked down. You could install whatever OS you'd want to replace SteamOS, or you could buy your games somewhere other than Steam and just use SteamOS as a launcher.

I wouldn't blame Unity for this. It's perfectly capable of running games efficiently on mobile. Problem is people either don't know how to or don't care to optimize their games performance.

It's also possible to use stock flat assembler (non-g) for this, to some extent. I've done it before here: https://github.com/Rohansi/FPCompo11/blob/master/Assembler/i...

Not necessarily. By default they will continuously render frames but some are capable of skipping frames when nothing is changing. However this is a manual optimization to perform whereas using a proper UI framework would handle it automati

Which game engine? I don't think using Unity to make a UI app is great if you don't need the game-y features. It's UI functionally isn't the best since their UI Elements package is not quite ready for production use in g

Anti-cheat software is usually blocking playing in VMs or on Linux anyway. Some monitors [1] have cheats like that built in now, too. They are much more limited than what cheats do today because they only have access to information visible

Requiring TPM can actually benefit multiplayer video games because it introduces a secure way to identify hardware being used by cheaters. Right now everything being used by games is easily spoofed by cheats so cheaters just need to get a n

There are fewer walls, yes. Push notifications from PWAs are another area that is unnecessarily limited on iOS. They only work if the user has added your PWA to their home screen and Safari doesn't support the install prompts available

The risks are not even comparable, IMO. I would rather take these conveniences because I don't think anyone would care to use that information against me if it was leaked. But many people would gladly use a credit card with PIN written

That looks pretty similar but I like the use of classes in react-class-model to encourage keeping logic out of components. It's not shown in the readme but using context is optional - you can similarly achieve global state by storing i

I don't understand why state management is filled with so much weird terminology. When I started working on a React app years ago every state management package I saw was filled with it - and they still are. I ended up rolling my own s

`await` is only logically blocking. Internally the code in an async function is split up between each `await` so that each fragment can be called separately. They are cooperatively scheduled so `await` is sugar for 1) ending a fragment, 2)

It works fine for now. As soon as Manifest V2 is officially gone you will certainly see an increase in ads. What ad company wouldn't take advantage of more limited ad blocking capabilities in the most popular web browser?

With what kind of workload? If you need 32GB of RAM then the computer that actually has that much RAM should be almost guaranteed to be quicker.
