They did not - it is still a work in progress with no announced target release date. They also have no current plans to upgrade the GC being used by IL2CPP (their C# AOT compiler). https://discussions.unity.com/t/corecl

Unity lets you use either IL2cPP (AOT) or Mono (JIT). Either way it will use Boehm GC which is a lot worse than the .NET GC. If your game servers weren't using Unity then they are using a better GC.

The GC that Unity is using is extremely bad by today's standards. C# everywhere else has a significantly better GC. In this game's case though they possibly didn't do much optimization to reduce GC by pooling, etc. Unity has

Unity has literally the worst implementation of C# out there right now. Not only is it running Mono instead of .NET (Core) but it's also not even using Mono's generational GC (SGen). They have been working on switching from Mono t

I believe you can avoid most of not all of the P/invoke overhead these days by using unmanaged function pointers and not using the automatic marshalling.

Yes, but even some cheats are possible through streaming. Basic things like scripted no-recoil all the way to aimbots based on image recognition. People are even using AI to recognize and highlight players on your screen - and even some bui

To some degree, yes. But there are actually many cheaters that intentionally don't play perfectly to avoid detection. That way they appear higher skilled but still within human range.

Latency significantly reduces the effectiveness of culling via the server. There will always be a place for client side anti-cheat if games are running on players' computers.

FYI cache lines are 64 bytes, not bits. So Apple is using 128 bytes. Also important to consider that the RTX 4090 has a relatively tiny 384-bit memory bus. Smaller than the M1 Max's 512-bit bus. But the RTX 4090 has 1 TB/s bandwid

AnandTech did bandwidth benchmarks for the M1 Max and was only able to utilize about half of it from the CPU, and the GPU used even less in 3D workloads because it wasn't bandwidth limited. It's not all about bandwidth. https:&#x

Apple is using LPDDR5 for M3. The bandwidth doesn't come from unified memory - it comes from using many channels. You could get the same bandwidth or more with normal DDR5 modules if you could use 8 or more channels, but in the PC spac

No way the new Mini is too small to allow upgradability. You can buy a Windows mini PC that is not only smaller than the new Mini but also allows upgrading both RAM and SSD. And that's without using LPCAMM2 - just normal SO-DIMMs. (Exa

Good that there's a solution coming up but it's not as nice as C# IMO. Gatherers are way more verbose both in usage and especially in implementation. In C# they can be written as generator methods which is a very intuitive way to

One of the unfortunate pieces missing from Java's streams is the ability to easily extend them with additional operators. In C# they are all extension methods for the IEnumerable interface so you can add your own methods into the chain

Not possible to fully AOT for all applications because you don't know which ones do JIT compilation to generate x86 code at runtime. Many games make use of LuaJIT, for example.

It's not just about cost. Theoretically yes, you shouldn't send information that you don't want users to get and abuse. However, in the context of games, this is not always possible because most games are realtime and need to
