Amazon is known to mix stock based on the EAN/UPC. If a merchant is inserting counterfeits that bear the same barcode as the original, they will be mixed together with the real thing with no traceability, and buyers could end up with t

To me it doesn't look like it's a front-end issue. I am mainly complaining about the HTTP response time. It seems extremely slow on both pipelines and merge requests, and Vue ain't gonna fix that I'm afraid. I don't

Haven't really used group chats that much on it, but for call establishment, I stand behind my words when I say it used to be a lot better. With P2P it would sometimes take a bit longer (10 seconds?) but it would always work. When it

Unrelated to that incident, but I feel their web UI to be extremely slow lately. Working with PRs (or "merge requests" as GitLab calls them) and CI pipeline is a pain, you're looking at 1 second response times.

Disagreed. Skype worked perfectly for me on smartphone, and the few quirks could've been patched without screwing it up completely. I feel like Skype was ahead of its time, it was essentially a cross-platform iMessage & FaceTime th

I am not sure how "unreliable" the peer to peer model was. From what I remember it's always been perfect for me. Media uploads could have been solved by a server-based "media" service, while keeping the reliable &am

Disagreed. Skype used to be mainstream. It was essentially a cross platform iMessage & FaceTime, almost ahead of its time. It was also efficient in terms of network usage, being peer-to-peer for the most part. Had it continued to be usa

It would be good if you could combine this with some OCR/computer vision to automatically detect and block click bait thumbnails like with a red circle, or proeminent boobs, or similar.

If my movie library is of any indication, yes it’s definitely still a thing. (And before you say anything, I do pay for Netflix and have video included in my Amazon Prime membership - none of which had those movies)

Deduplication would save storage space, but won’t do anything for bandwidth; if you redirect users to an existing image they’re still going to download it and you’re still going to use up some bandwidth.

Just wondering, why don’t you disable all of that tracking? I just checked the opt-out screen and there’s literally hundreds of ad “partners” (partners in crime that is). Ironically, one of those “partners” is called Ant Voice.

Is there actual evidence that such content causes harm, or is this the usual “think of the children” FUD ? I know it’s a sample size of one, but being exposed to violent & explicit content as a kid doesn’t seem to have ruined my life in

Does anyone actually care about that? If anything, a filtering mechanism would backfire because kids & teens would be exclusively seeking out that content because that’s where the “good stuff” would be.

Just based on the fact that Google's business model is inherently incompatible with privacy, I'd stay away. It is in Google's best interest to sneakily track people despite claiming not doing so, and they can be very good at

Not sure how they are planning to achieve that. The only edge they potentially have is access to location data without a possible opt-out. Everything else is behind HTTPS, so impossible for them to track. Facebook can pull it off because

Yeah, but the main "business" of Imgur seems to be memes and other nonsense, not image hosting. And again, nobody will pay for memes. Competitors like CloudApp or Droplr do image/video hosting much better.

I don’t see how Imgur can be profitable to begin with. Nobody will pay for it, and people are ignoring ads more and more (not to mention that too much intrusive ads, like video ads will drive some people away completely).

Being a sole trader is a pain in France, and the taxes are outright robbery. The taxman feels like "hold on, this guy is actually making money... let me add a few zeros to his taxes to make sure he goes down!".

Seconded. In French culture the “boss” is traditionally considered as an asshole. While I’m not saying there aren’t bad bosses out there, this kind of hostile culture towards management doesn’t really help anything. Taxes are awful as well,

Then maybe they shouldn’t be oversubscribing, or finally upgrade the infrastructure now that they milked out enough money from the oversubscription and the energy consumption is finally catching up. Another solution is to make a proper “bur
