Great read, but I don't agree with all of these points. OpenAI's technological moat is not necessarily meaningful in a context where the average consumer is starting to recognize ChatGPT as a brand name. Furthermore, models which

What on earth is unbelievable about that? There are many similar stories here on HN. After 1 minute of searching, I found this example of an account which was deactivated, reactivated, and then deactivated again. Then poster doesn't sp

Wow, these results are amazing! This might be extremely helpful in reducing the memory consumption of large models in the future.

This article doesn't mention pricing, but I'd be interested to see how this measures up to OpenAI's costs.

On the one hand, I love seeing ways to make Python faster with low effort. It's awesome to see projects like this which can compile static executables. Nuitka is another cool project, but with a focus on compatibility instead of speed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but 500 qps for serving static files seems supremely unimpressive. Fair play about it being more fun, or saving some money from AWS, but I am not convinced that this setup is a good achievement in terms of

It's disingenuous to make assumptions and argue without having made a good faith effort to see if what you're saying is true. 5 minutes of research would have taken you to the research paper in question, which has a straightforwar

This looks really cool - if I understand correctly, you've implemented a Mongo compatible database that runs on FoundationDB and auto-optimizes the indexes. Can you share a bit more about what stage this is at, and how mature the datab

If this is written in earnest, it's absolute drivel. If this is satire, then it's lacking enough humor to make that readily apparent.

I don't see anything very unique looking here. I think they should have just gone with an off-the-shelf library.

Good point. Even if there's a more widespread problem in society, it's pretty unpleasant for some victims to be thought of as a distraction.

Looks great. I think it's definitely possible to tell that it's fake if you already know that it's not a real video, but I probably wouldn't have noticed anything out of the ordinary if I weren't already primed to s

> it is no surprise, that people aren't willing to pay more for an inferior product You hit the nail on its head. I think there's still hope for meat substitutes if they can improve their flavor while also lowering their price.

I LOVE this idea! But I think it's too easy to guess when using the video. If we could blue the entire video, I think that would make it much better.

You don't need an ad blocker if you just pay for YouTube premium. Often times I see people complaining about ads there, but I think ads are necessary for users who aren't paying for the product.

I agree with you. Raytracing really isn't useful for most gamers, and I don't think it's realistic for the video game industry to move towards raytracing when rasterized rendering has delivered such good results thus far. ML

I think writing their own physics engine might be wrong way to go here. I understand that Bullet leaves a lot to be desired, but my instinct is that the complexity from their own engine will leave a lot of edge case bugs that need to be iro

Do these TPU VMs have preemptible/spot pricing? I'm just a hobbyist, but it always seemed annoying before that one would have to orchestrate VMs to spin up/down alongside spot instances of TPUs manually.

I was interested but I took a look at the documentation, and it seems like VST plugins using this can only be compiled for Mac right now. Is that right? It doesn't seem very useful for building plugins if that's the case.

Wow, I was definitely considering trying this out until I saw your comment. They charged you mistakenly, didn't detect it on their side, and then never gave you a reasonable explanation for why? For me, that's a definite no-go.
