I'm from Northern Ontario, and I agree that wood smoke can be killer, especially below -30°C (-22°F) when the smoke stays near the ground. Oven stoves, according to the article, address this. The section "Complete combustion"

Terry Davis learned in university and on the job before the schizophrenia 'kicked in'. How he was able to focus enough to write so much solid code after the illness started, I'll never know.

Terry Davis, of TempleOS fame, did a video about writing a mini JIT compiler in TempleOS using HolyC: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnVYXplrRkQ

It certainly wasn't the first red flag, but the weirdest for me. According to the "Acknowledgements" section at the bottom, that line is from a Chris Rock skit.

I'm not expressing feelings on the premise one way or another, but in regards to the empty "advantages" section, I instantly thought of a line from the movie Trainspotting (albeit about heroin): “People think it's all ab

It's something the average person doesn't need to think about, until some tragedy grabs people's attention. Then hopefully it will be fixed and become a problem of the past, once again something we don't need to think ab

Part of this is that he tried to keep the TempleOS code simple, so he didn't implement things like USB or GPU code, and he eventually took out BMP support. He had a limit of lines of code he tried to keep things under.

(Context, the late creator of the original TempleOS, Terry Davis, was very schizophrenic.) This video is the definitive rundown on his life and illness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCgoxQCf5Jg Terry Davis, in life and o

I have a big appreciation for TempleOS, it's how I learned C after only knowing high-level programming for years. This is a project by a friend that I think is a great direction for TempleOS forks: it stays close to the source material

In my ideal city the majority of people would consider themselves pedestrians, cyclists, and (optionally) drivers, depending on the needs and conditions of the given day. Edit: And public transit-takers, of course!

My observations: I grew up in Northern Ontario, where the cities are basically long stroads. Inside of a car, they can be stressful to drive in, as they combine high-speed travel with frequent and awkward turns. God forbid you want to walk

This reminded me of a cool technology that I've forgotten the name of and can't find again online. It was some sort of wood-burning stove that loaded sticks from the top and would recirculate the smoke until the fuel burned off, t

One sort-of exception is Erlang (and anything else that runs on the BEAM vm, like Elixir). It doesn't match Alan Kay's vision exactly, because the message passing is done a bit differently (for example it's asynchronous), but
