Bezos' plan was always to have a mouthpiece to spout propaganda. Why else invest in a dying medium? Same with Carlos Slim and the NYT. This isn't rocket surgery.

I ain't even mad. Life is about finding out exactly how much you can get away with.

That this sort of knowledge is often uninteresting to non-technical types. I'm pretty jaded at this point.

If it did, that would be bezo's plan in buying the paper backfiring spectacularly.

Agreed. I think it's simple common courtesy that the person extending the invite picks up the check.

You're referring to the square root of the second moment about the mean. The short answer is yes, it's always useful, provided you have an estimator. Check out Chebyshev's inequality. Just don't start talking about it t

It could out me. I'd like to hang on to my job, and we're not allowed to be critical of IBM.

Old saying: "Life is hard, even harder if you're stupid." We were too stupid to catch on that everybody else is lying.

Also, containerization. Oh wait, that was 2016, too.

Lol. You don't understand. It's a fantastic way to seem like you're doing something innovative when you're not really doing anything at all. The good ones use it as a smoke screen to cover for doing things that need to

I recently sat through a sales pitch for a piece of IBM software that has an intensely focused (and better) competitor. IBM's sales pitch was that 1) this particular piece of software was "central to IBM's [market niche] stra

When I took world history at university, one of the biggest points taken from the bronze age section was that there hadn't been any hard evidence discovered to support an exodus of Israelites from Egypt to Palestine (Canaan), and that

I don't think bro-culture is something anyone aspires to. I had a great experience working for a company that often is criticized as a "boys club", but I consider what I experienced there to be Man-Culture, not bro-culture,

Excellent point--the pressure still came from religious dietary restrictions, but nabisco felt it from people who wanted to be in compliance with those.

Absolutely agreed that not everyone's concern is cost. I don't live an affluent area, however. I'm lucky to have a job with benefits, if that tells you anything. I can't imagine my neighbors caring too much.

Absolutely agreed with all of this, and well done on the analysis--you backed out my back-of-the-envelope numbers. Gas has been ~$2 where I live for a very long time, and you're right, I'm closer to 5 than 10k miles, and much of i

Selling to jews and (probably moreso) Muslims. When you can't sell your HFCS confection to 25% of the world's population, you start to think about these things. Edit: confabulation->confection

Nail on the head. When your concern is cost, electric vehicles just don't make sense. I drive 5-10 thousands miles a year, and at $2/gallon gas, I'm looking at a total expense of 4-500 dollars per year. To illustrate, I rec
