So true. I want rust to take off, as even bounds checking at compile time would save me a lot of trouble. I don't know if I'll ever be able to deal with the community, though. On the other hand, I've never seen people get as

Surprised it wasn't UT Austin. You just can't make it through modern engineering if you can't use _matlab_, and it's easy if you've already finished C. Old YTMND jokes aside, I did it this way too, and didn't l

I'm learning Omp right now, and I'm excited about it, but my sarcasm filter is off today--are you serious about this? What about the inability to exit a parallel region--I was under the impression that once you start a parallel fo

>do crime This particular verb with the word crime--may I ask if you are an American? I've only ever heard people who are not from America say it this way. Americans always seem to say "commit" crime.

Nothing exciting to report. It was a resource-sizing problem and they didn't adequately separate prod and dev environments. Someone choked the dev and the prod went down with it.

This irreverent spirit is exactly why trump won. Compare his campaign messaging with some of the messaging out of the clinton machine and you will see how deep it goes. Consider Trump's 1) Make America Great Again (subtext: we've

The best free tool here by far is the weaponized autism, as they call it. Hundreds or thousands of bored, reasonably intelligent people united toward a common cause. And they're the sort of people who wind up on /pol/, so ge

Rstudio is an IDE. If you want a gui for R, check out Rattle. My shop is going the opposite direction, from R/excel to SAS+Cognos. I'm not happy about that decision, but the pay is good and the problems are still interesting.

Definitely agreed. But the word analytics means too many different things to too many different people at this point. I'm in favor of more words to differentiate each part.

Also notable that so many new shops are foregoing it entirely. SAS, and its price tag, is a holdover from the days when 'analytics' was an afterthought for companies looking to maximize profit. Now that much less mature companies
