The lawsuits vs Google and Apple were about was allowing 3rd-party stores onto your platform, not about hardware lock-in.

What? Why would devices locked down at the OS-level to only a 1st-party store and only permitting installing through that 1st-party store be hardware-bound? Winphones were bound to the Windows store, but were 3rd-party devices.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be punished. I'm saying that what Apple does is worse and is punished less.

Name one of those OSes that had a quality phone on the market with a zero-dollar-license OS in 2009. Android was first modern mobile OS to market that would run on 3rd party devices (unlike Apple and RIM). Tizen was 2013. Win phone was 201

I don't doubt that a workable alternative could be invented (and could improve on the deep flaws in the drug patent system), but it would be absolutely necessary to implement that alternative before removing the drug patent system. &qu

One thing all these cities with catastrophic street drug use have in common is also bonkers housing crisis. Homelessness correlates pretty tightly with prevailing rents. People end up on the street and do drugs because once you've hit

I think mRNA vaccines provide a pretty strong counter-argument. And do you know how many heart patients are alive today thanks to apixaban? Before that drug people were taking literal rat-poison as an anticoagulant.

Without drug patents drug discovery would completely stop . I'm not averse to looking at alternative models for providing revenue to the drug discovery and testing infrastructure (the current model of patents is flawed as hell), but i

Not only that, but the patent system is 100% essential to pharma research. Pharma takes a crapload of time from patent to market because of the many layers or trial safety. There are drugs that just plain miss their deadline -- setbacks d

The objects aren't opaque, you can catch them in a variable and inspect it with get-member. I find it very nice to work interactively when developing a script -- call a getter command and either let it out to the console or store it i
