I used their payments to buy something in the Apple store last week. It really feels like stealing: You walk in, take the product, scan it with your phone, and walk out. If they enable this for other merchants, it would be a huge business.

I have once developped this myself, by having a Linux machine with a tv card and some software scrape close captioning, and sending it to a webserver. Few years ago tho, and not running anymore. And you need one per tv channel you want to

This is one of the first public numbers I have come across on salaries in SF startups: $ 1,168,710. This is for a team of (in the end) 7 people, in about 2 years (started with 3 people). Let's say an average of 5 people. That comes do

Thanks for sharing this, interesting. However, why don't you mention Google Docs and Dropbox as competitors? Google docs already does this, and Dropbox seems to be clearly heading this way.

I'm pretty sure that's actually not the case. If so, why does my kindle switch itself 'off' after not using it for a few minutes? While the screen might take no energy to keep an image, I think it keeps other parts activ

How could the Segway panned out differently? (Serious question). I was quite exited to see it at first, but realistically it doesn't have many advantages over a bicycle, and a lot of disadvantages (biggest one is price).

Interesting! I saw the book a few weeks ago and wondered who put it together. I assume the letters are public? How did you get the extra material? And do you share any income with Buffet? (That would feel strange, but would also make sense)

In this talk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0ukYf_xvgc he explains the series itself doesn't work well in a pilot: He wanted long story lines, and multiple complex characters, both of which are impossible in a pilot.

When I was in a local electronics shop a few weeks ago, they already had x86 chromebooks (along with the ARM Samsung version). So what's the news here?

Why replace the control box, instead of controlling that? In the article it says: " but the power has to be off for more than a second to have an effect. Not quite as simple as simulating a momentary switch. " With an arduino and

While theoretically true, I think for most accounts the risk is fairly small: I'm sure it's hard to come up with something to tweet from my account that moves any stock exchange even a penny.

That's good news, but with their production version, the pricing also changed. I believe before they had more of an AWS/S3 model paying per GB stored and transferred. Now I need to pick a tier, and pay monthly.

Interesting, but is it really true 'normal' open rates are also only 13%? Or is this how it's measured, e.g. only including people who click 'show images', and thus load the tracking pixels?

Hmm, I quite liked their term extraction API and used it in some hacks. If I recall they were planning to shut it down before, but didn't after many complaints. It seems I'll need to look into YQL now.

Do you quote companies, or people? When I quote companies, I never include VAT (I guess you are also Dutch). Including VAT makes you sound more expensive, and the client can deduct the VAT anyway. So quote without VAT for companies.
