I was given a piece of advice very early on in my career that I've always been grateful for, which is fundamentally the same as this. IF and FOR are both code smells. One case of this is just simplifying loops with some functional goo

What your saying is certainly true for some areas, but I feel like there is a big market for commodity ML. I don't worry that Microsoft developed our database and might therefore steal our business from under us. I just need a nice r

I think this comes down to making sure your advantage is inhouse but outsource the other stuff. For the vast amount of companies where ML isn't in any way core, this is great. For example we've got a little internal app that incl

I always think that the sign of a good system (be it a country or a company or whatever) is not that mistakes don't happen. But that the same mistakes don't happen twice.

Something that people aren't commenting much on but feels sort of significant to me is the way this information was released. The initial tweet talked ambiguously about some "State Actor" cutting off internet. Although true,

Right, but if Russia is cutting it off that will be a snip the cable type job, killing internet for the whole embassy (or even building). Something you'd expect to be noticed pretty widely. And it would be fixable by phoning BT. As f

I'm a bit confused by all the comments here spinning off down conspiracy theories, but not much on facts. "State actor" can only really mean UK or Ecuadorian government - or at the very least one of those two must be pulling

It's summer time - during the winter the UK runs on UTC, so if you've forgot to do a timezone conversion you don't spot it until the clocks change in spring. Having tests use the time in summer make this easier to spot.

Our solution in c# with dependency injection looks like this. Any class that needs to know the time has the following object injected in. public interface IDateTime { DateTime UtcNow { get; } DateTime Today { get; }

It doesn't completely solve the problem, but if you set CS1998 to be a compile time error rather than a warning it will help. This means methods marked "async" must have at least one "await".

What does hand over mean. Assange isn't wanted in America, and as far as I'm aware hasn't broken any US laws either. I'm sure you can find some quotes from blowhard politicians saying something mean about him, but that
