How does one know that they will comply with a rule like that? Do they 1. Build the app first and hope for the best (this seems to happen a lot) 2. Get some type of preliminary approval by Apple so they don't sink all the money into bu

Many apps, especially JavaScript based ones download unapproved JavaScript without a user's consent or knowledge as updates to the app outside of the review process but those are still allowed.

I understand what you're saying because I feel the same way. I think what other commentators are pointing out that many/most people feel differently. I have a 15 year old car. It runs great. I don't care that paint is peeling

The last three phone batteries I replaced were glued in (well, adhesive tape) and they were a massive pain the butt to remove. Honestly, I'm not even sure why they need such sticky adhesive since the case holds the battery in place. I

I tried NixOS in a VM a while back and I found it pretty confusing. I liked the idea of having a configuration file that describes the packages installed in the system. The first thing I did was use the CLI to install Firefox, then I found

One thing you can't do in vim (that I'm aware of) is write code using proportional fonts. I know I'm an outlier here. An HN post actually converted me. I use Input Condensed proportional font. I love it. I have a hard time wi

What is Google One? Is this the service formally known as Google Apps or some other service? I find it hard to keep track of all their products because they change so much.

Visual Studio (full edition) doesn't have extensions. It's a full blown IDE and everything is built-in. Despite having a similar name, the two products sharing almost nothing in common.

This is an interesting idea. Look at how religion explains the origin of life: A lifeform not from this planet, far more advanced than us, gave "the breath of life", and calls us their "children". The vastness of this un

I was able to convert a PHP 5.4 app to 7.1 but after that there are too many backwards incompatible changes to be easy to fix. Even the upgrade to 7.1 took a few days of tweaks to the code. In my case the upgrade was demanded by security be

I agree. I know people that spend hundreds on keyboards, for example. I also think the debates about vim vs IDEs falls into this same category. It's just a tool. I really don't type all that much as a percentage of my work day.

I believe your comment is a bit tongue in cheek about Microsoft's settlement over IE. The concern here is that government, especially lawyers, are not good at coming up with remedies. If the court rules Google is a monopoly, then what?
