The entire internet ad business has never made sense to me. Have you ever clicked any of the links? The landing pages were always confusing and not at all designed for you to engage with them. I used to think, okay, I guess they don't

Sure, but imagine how funny it would be if you could buy something from Apple and get a refund because you don't want to use their OS.

I don't want yet another app on my phone. My rule for apps these days is that if it is not available through F-Droid, I won't be using it.

Solving one captcha is mildly annoying. Being trapped in an infinite captcha loop will really grind your gears and eat away at your spirit. Having my CPU go up for a while is nearly frictionless on the other hand. Worst case I'm stuck

What you are describing sounds like a weird alternative reality. I never heard of always splitting bills, either. But it's not exactly a homogeneous country. To the point everyone jokes that Bavaria isn't even German, for example.

As a German that never has encountered PayPal in the wild and doesn't have a Paypal account either, your narration requires elaboration to be believable.

Twitter doesn't really work without an account. Projects like Nitter solved that. Especially annoying when Twitter is a source for something.

My steelman read of that would be that there is a difference between paying Apple a premium to make installing Linux hard vs. paying, say, Framework a premium to make installing Linux easy.

This doesn't change the meaning of the word modern, though. It just uses a different scale. The same way the Moon is "right next to" the Earth. However, when you tie the word "new" or in this case "modern"

In 1997, there were only a hundred thousand web pages. Not even millions. The one billion mark would not be breached until 2016 according to the results of a quick search.

I do not recall any of that happening, though. Which law are you thinking of and what could the church do beforehand that it couldn't do after? The way I remember it, life for the average person didn't change.

So when one part of the Earth decides to make more people another part of the Earth gets less? If this really happened it would incentivize genocide against less developed nations.

Offloading problems makes it so you do not have to solve them. If you don't have to solve a problem, your brain does not have that work to do. Your brain working less means it has less opportunities to train. The consequence is worse c
