This feels like the calculator debate all over again. Yes, using a calculator leads to worse outcomes in your learning. But also, yes, everyone always carries a calculator on their person 24/7 these days and you'll never be as fa

I remember reading about people talking how writing and reading books leads to cognitive decline because people won't need to remember things anymore. Pretty sure the way social media is designed contributes more to short attention spa

Didn't journalism go out of business decades ago and now not even pretends to be journalism anymore? I feel it has gotten so bad that most younger people alive today do not even realize what journalism is supposed to be: only report th

While this is a nice feature, needing an account (nevermind paying) to then only get a meta search engine will prevent me from ever using it. I already spread my searches across at least four different engines (Bing, Ecosia, Startpage &

Google results have gotten so bad, I have to wonder if it is still the defacto search engine anywhere or whether the numbers are simply made up.

Couldn't you say the very same about luck, too? I'd say luck and happiness are mostly an attitude thing. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade and all that.

AMD RX 6700 XT from 2021 only has DP1.4 (but HDMI 2.1). Dell U5226KW from 2026 only has DP1.4 (but HDMI 2.1). I don't think I have seen anything above DP1.4 in the wild for now.

Can happiness even be measured? Do we have a unit for happiness? I think that's a big "no" to both questions, so the entire topic is a bit strange. Might as well ask which type of people are luckier.

Maybe it's like a drug? I never read/watched news in my entire life and find it pretty easy. It's impossible to completely shield yourself from getting the news at all, which is a bit unfortunate. I feel I would lead a happie

What do you mean by delighted? I recently had ChatGPT help me search for sources of Japanese voice actors from 1980s anime and it told me that it liked doing this. So much in fact, that weeks later in a completely different context it broug

My $50 (without the HEPA filter) air purifier can detect particles and change fan speed accordingly. It also has a light sensor to go into really quiet mode during the night. Though, looking it up it seems that prices for the Winix Zero (in

I am specifically talking about particles in the 0.3 to 1.0 micron range which according to the graph from your link are the most difficult to filter out. Can a 99% filter catch these? My understanding of this is that they cannot. According

Reminds me of my time in a large dormitory. The first time the fire alarm went off at night without there even being a fire, I went outside. All the other times - and I lost track of counting - I just ignored it and went back to sleep.

Looks like a cool project, but the 99.97% HEPA filters are the expensive part. Building yourself only makes sense if you want to choose your own aesthetics or enjoy doing it.

If you only use 99% it means there are small particles you can't catch. Being faster is meaningless if you can never clean the air. Air purifiers are designed to run 24/7 and all they do is catch particles. Eventually all the part
