How is it not censorship if you are making the decision for not only yourself, but others, too? It sounds like saying bleeping swear words on TV isn't censorship because you just don't want to hear bad language.

Wikipedia has a whole lot of problems, you just don't notice them, because the media isn't interested in shining a spotlight on it like they do with other platforms and the drama that happens there is fairly well hidden, despite b

The Gerudo are pronounced Geld (ゲルド) in Japanese, which is the German word for money. Ganondorf (ガノンドロフ) also has the German word Dorf (village) in it. This doesn't get us closer to the origin, but speaking of German influence, Link al

Not necessarily, which is also why animals do not have rights. A right isn't always the correct solution to a problem. For example, if your tap water is poisonous, but you can get safe drinking water from a store, you right to safe dri

I already notice LLM speech patterns in people that use them a whole lot. If you speak more than one language I recommend talking to LLMs in a language that you don't use when speaking to people.

Isn't perfect pitch just when you can tell a note without having a reference tone? Once you have a point of reference things just go up and down and from there it should be manageable to identify each note. Also, not sure about the inn

Possibility? Didn't the US sabotage Nordstream 2 a few years ago? It's pretty clear that the US isn't friendly towards Europe unless Europe behaves like a vassal.

Without a device that you need to get from a physical transaction you won't be accessing the internet, either. There are all kinds of restrictions on alcohol now. They haven't been there since the invention of alcohol, though.

Never heard of that before. A quick search doesn't reveal sufficient documentation to form an opinion. Do you have better resources? Can't find it for sale in the online shops I usually use (Germany), either.

So you can't just build things in Germany. Even if you just want to build a structure on your property. You need to get government approval first. Which can take years. You won't get approval if whatever you want to build would im

I'm not feeling strongly about enforcement. The point would be to not have websites be liable if things go wrong, the way that breweries aren't responsible if some drunk teen drives to his death. Enforcement of banning alcohol for

Your ISP knows this already, doesn't it? Internet cafés can ask for ID. Sure, your parents can give you access, but your parents could also give you booze, porn and guns if they feel so inclined.

I've always been a bit curious about Fairphone, but as I only get phones that cost less than $200 (and use them until they physically break), I'll probably never get one. Still only on my second smartphone, so I'm not worried

There are systems in place dealing with negligent parents. They could be better, but they exist. If kids were banned, there couldn't be that much peer pressure. Think about it, how many kids will get a gun just because some of the kids

I don't think I care as much for a twelve year old seeing age inappropriate things, as that is what I was seeking out and enjoying at that age. And that was before Internet was a thing people had in their homes. I was watching horror m

In other engineering fields systems are supposed to be supported for at least 60 years. Now that IT stuff has matured, it might be time to hold it to similar standards of longevity.

I still don't understand why the simplest approach isn't used: ban kids from using the Internet unsupervised. There's really no good reason why a six year old should have internet access.

Shouldn't AI help us push this down to 30h for everyone? Who in their right mind wants to work more? Most of the 40h week is wasted with doing pointless things anyway.
