I too have this fear sometimes, and for example never want to learn anything about wine, but it's not always the case. A friend and I have bonded over appreciating the "shit" things, like white bread toast and hotel coffee an

The City and the Stars by Arthur C Clarke is one of my favourites and have only ever met one other person who has read it. Just reread it recently and it's even better and more relevant than I remembered. The 1950s was a particularly g

You can often tell where someone is from from text alone! There are plenty of idiosyncrasies even in how different English speaking countries use the language.

Yeah this would honestly be incredible and actually deserving of the "spatial computing" moniker. I would love to be able to have a dedicated spatial location for each part of my Django app: look over here for the CSS, step here f

Thanks! By doing nothing at all—these are all just Unicode code points :o So if you're quick you can even copy a time as text. The only tricky thing was the symbol for 20 (and just that) didn't work on Android?? so I detect that a

I agree somewhat with your sentiment and have some nostalgia for a time when software could be finished, but the comment you're replying to was making a joke that I think you may have missed.

Shameless plug but you might enjoy the site I've been working on for the past few years: lynkmi.com It's very much inspired by the earlier web and more recently especially catalysed by the trend you note of the big sites punishing

This is wonderful, thanks for sharing. I'm a big fan of Hofstadter, but knew about ambigrams before I knew about him, so I'm delighted (but not all that surprised) to find out he coined the term! I too love the art of creating an

Two feature suggestions: 1. When showing a diff, indicate what function the altered lines are in (Github does this nicely) 2. There are leading spaces when copying some multiline snippets from the output and these make it harder to copy pas

I really need to do this! You reminded me of the early days at inscribe.ai where we just had an Asana board with red, orange, and yellow tags meaning high, mid, and low importance, and after completing an important one I'd treat myself

Yeah the typography is pretty poor. When everything is bold, nothing is. Poor visual hierarchy and as you noted the vertical spacing is bad too. It also doesn't fully fit in horizontally on mobile.

And how's that going for the US? Public health recommendations have a notoriously poor record (take the food pyramid for example), so RDAs aren't exactly the way to build a healthy diet. [0] For example, here's a paper uncove

It's not bro science, and the number I gave is actually less than the standard recommendation of 1g/lb of bodyweight per day, which you can see explained here [0]. Most people should be doing some form of resistance training, so

Yeah, it's quite worrying. The best I'm seeing is just two eggs, which is about a tenth of the total protein they should probably be eating. If you're reading thus, the general rule of thumb is 1.8g/kg of lean body mass.
