I will give various sites a little wiggle room via NoScript but by the 3rd failure due to an excess of 3rd party requirements I just move on to somewhere else.

This is the fine line between inspirational and stupid. But I guess that is the hacker manifesto, it is so pointless it has to be done!

Really depends on your use case if you are constantly piping various files from one app into another - android still has that down fairly well. Browser > NewPipe > VLC for instance. If you are more focused on the curated ecosystem App

So the second trick looks like how the background layers work on systems like NES/Master System/SNES/Genesis. Just update tiles outside of the visible range and just have the view window constantly looping around. Or am I mis

Ha... look at that. Not bad at all! I wonder how many machines at the time could power through that? ;) Talking about these little tile and scrolling tricks. Golden Axe on the Master System had to get around the sprite size limit by having

We went from Wolf3D to Quake 3 in 7 years. So from software Ray Casting to full 3D acceleration in that time period. 7 years ago from now we had Uncharted 4, it is behind were we are now but not as much as you would think.

Pretty much. About 2 years ago I couldn't even do a single pull up without it being a huge strain. Now 20 to 30 is absolutely nothing. I couldn't tell you when it became like that, it just eventually happened.

By the 2 minute mark, it is pretty unbearable. 9 hours is just on another level. A whole work day in that position.

I love it! Isn't there some electronics repair test, where everyone in the class has a TV to fix. All of them are the same. So most folks just start tearing the thing apart trying to get it done first. The way you solve it is by pluggi

I love that any time May turns up, really is a coin flip between astrophysics and Queen. He really has thread the needle between fame and intellect.

While the end of your comment could be seen as 'whatabout-ism', you are right that in simply over cooking something or just adding to much salts/sugars to some foods would probably be a bigger issue.

The more chemists I have spoken to over the years, the more I hear warnings about polymers in general. Seems as though, that in general structure simply cannot be manufactured in a way that is innocuous to our health. It is plausible that p

About 20 years ago I used to make boiled potatoes in the microwave - just had to boil in there for a good 10 minutes in a plastic container... yeah that wasn't so great.

I work in hospitality supplies. We sell about a thousand plastic sous vide bags for every 1 silicon one. Silicon bags are basically a rounding error.

It doesn't even need to be deliberately faked data but more data published without much due process to ensure it validity. I have had about three people working in the research fields that have used the term, off the record of course,

I never saw anything inspirational about what he did but it did highlight just how human fallilble our computer technology could be. Could have got the message out in a better way but the story of him avoiding the law provides that sort of

I think it was the developer of Krita who said, it cannot just be open source/Libre - the software has to actually be good. There is a lot of truth to that. FLOSS stuff is good at bringing in the folks that see the point of view of Ric

It is more the spirit of it and how it is used by the users rather than the technicality of it. I mean Android has a Linux kernel but it is not used in the same way as a desktop computer.

A lot of shows on Adult swim. I have seen many folks that have worked with the network basically say they have near 100% creative control. Mind you it is about 90% animated stuff. You see absolutely crazy stuff like The Eric Andre show get

This is why I find it funny when certain shows manage to get through the banal filter. Bojack Horseman and The Good Place are great examples. Both basically went in with a goofy premise but then pivoted as soon as they could into some reall

Funnily enough this is a sentiment Ted Kaczynski pushed in his manifesto. That technology has replaced the drive for power in individuals to support themselves, because it has become so easy, so people try to find other means to fill the po

The lost potential is a key one I have seen. The idea that your youth is in the rear view mirror and that you didn't do all the things you thought you would do.

Amazon's delivery always felt odd to me because of this exact situation. Long term how sustainable can it be to work on such an extreme scale like that? The margins they must be hiding on via products must be good.

It is hard to tell, as someone else said Jones town is a good example of insane ideas taking hold of a group. Historical accuracy is difficult even on short time scales. Penn and Tell on their show BS used the "official" recipe of
