I always remember Flash being really fast at the vector calculation but and absolute hog on output rendering. So higher screen resolution hammered the CPU even though everything was setup.

Oh yeah it did. The amount of times when you are writing something in Word, then figure it has been 15 minutes, I should save. Only to move the mouse to the save icon only to have the entire system just stop. No error just a total lock. Thi

Theories without data are just Philosophy in mathematics based drag. It doesn't make it pointless but one has to treat it for what it is. It was like String theory, it was all well and good but without a meaningful experiment to test i

To add to this another little theory I have about the original Xbox compatibility. When Xbox first came out MS wasn't too strict on the TRC of titles, this is why you saw some stuff that seemed to punch above their weight. Wreckless re

Oh yeah, when I picked up my 360 and Ps3 recently, just judging by the time frames of the models and how little save games were on it - they didn't have a hard life. My Ps3 only had save games for a WWE game and GTA 5 from 8 years ago.

I will preface this with - I have never done it. It looks like a decade long game of trail and error. I suppose you start at the basics, getting an interpreter purely for CPU code. So PPC to x86 code. Then onto more complex stuff like float

Yep, Ps2 was a beast of interconnected timings, data transfer and cache oddities. I still find it so funny that they figured the best way to run the GPU was to have 2560 bit wide data bus on 4MB of RAM. So you could go fill rate crazy but o

If I was to wager a guess... they are using a form of static recompilation. This is why they need to have the binary downloaded to function. It would also explain how they could reconcile the differences between the PPC floating point lengt

Seeing as this looks like the finally moved over the Firefox Quantum codebase, it will possibly be faster provided you have the memory to support it. Like FF Quantum, it was definitely faster than the previous version but the memory usage j

I'm not a religious person but folks that produce emulators are doing gods work. Xbox 360 as a whole is in a half dead state nowadays. It is partially supported by Xbox One/Series X/S and if you want to get specific non suppo

Windows has been a decent development platform for Linux via Proton. ;) Maybe they are just worried about the long game of Proton eventually eroding MS's share? But this looks more like propping up Xbox and Gamepass than Windows losing

I don't think they really care what people think until it becomes a really major issue. MS has been through this these fazes so many times in the past and look at were they are. It doesn't seem to have slowed them down that much.

In an age when the average desktop was 800x600, it was astounding the first time I saw Win 98 running at 1600 x 1200. I mean, how could we ever fill that space? It was like when we jumped from software rendering 3D at 320x200 unfiltered tex
