Some people think that "roguelike" is a good term for games with no permanent progress, with "roguelite" being the alternative for games like Hades. These people don't say these terms out loud to anyone, they just p

I'm not sure when you tried. The current state-of-the-art emulation for melee is much more responsive than console melee; on a high-refresh-rate gaming monitor, you have 2 whole frames of extra input lag to play around with. For local

They previously "allowed" it at Evo 2013 after massive backlash from trying to shut down the Melee stream, years before anything related to sexual misconduct was talked about. There is nothing recent enough about how they treat th

I'd be interested in seeing a meta-analysis of all of these fair use copyright cases. The only consistency I see so far is that the side with more money ends up winning. Seuss > crowdsourced star trek pictures sold for $8k total <

There was a pretty serious-sounding contingent of commenters here in a recent thread about RSI. To them, the main cause of RSI was some sort of unconscious tension they were holding in the affected areas, and they needed to relax to make th

My dad just had a similar surgery in the shoulder; I'm not sure whether to send him this! There's no sense making the placebo effect less effective, or even reducing the efficacy of a useful surgery with the nocebo effect. In his

What's insane to me is that a grace period is built in, but that the mere fact that this grace protection is active isn't a giant neon sign on their dashboards and alerts. I do see how it could slip through the cracks, since it wa

The nature of configuration is that it's different for prod and your testing environments. It doesn't make it impossible to test your prod config changes, but it's not that simple either.

I think it's as simple as a case of the Mondays; you wouldn't roll out a migration like that on a Friday or the weekend, and rolling it out on a Monday gives you the least chances of problem occurring on those dates.

Is there any risk of a "doesn't produce immune response" failure that would make it unsafe to start giving to healthcare workers immediately? Could it make later vaccines ineffective? I'm sure that it would ruin the data

It might have been the trial for a different vaccine; I think it was the one someone on this site was participating in? But in that trial, the control was another proven vaccine for something most people don't commonly get vaccinated f

In Celeste, there's an easter egg that lets you play the original PICO-8 game on an in-game computer. How was this accomplished, if porting it themselves isn't possible? Did they have to remake the entire game?
