This article is going to rub lots of people the wrong way, I suspect, but it's level headed, well reasoned and well written. Although I ultimately disagree with some of the conclusions drawn at the end, (particularly: > Because cont

Citations are worthless when the reasoning that is citing them is shoddy. If you cite things, it makes the facts that you're referencing true. It doesn't make the logic of your argument true.

IIRC, this was the main reason it took so long. Google require GTFS formatted timetables for Maps, the Vic Government released the timetables eventually but there were issues, much finger printing was done, and eventually it was rectified.

This sort of response REEKS of near sightedness. "The big guys won't go for it. Therefore, it won't succeed". That's a recipe for somebody who isn't a "big guy" to start their business literally this

The data available shows that women and minorities ARE under represented in the tech industry. Corellation does not imply causation, but if you have a limited number of causal factors during the hiring process, the logical conclusion is tha

Comparatively it disappeared. The hype was ENORMOUS in the beginning. That wasn't sustainable, but it would have tapered off much less sharply if the game hadn't gone from fun to shit very rapidly within a month or two as Niantic

Very good question. Clearly they have brand recognition in the industry, I would speculate the this is the only thing they have going for them. It's only a matter of time before somebody cuts their lunch.

Agreed regarding downloading of libraries. I tried to get a python torrent library working in lambda the other day, and I had to manually dig through my /usr/lib to find the right shared objects. Should be much easier than that, I

I assumed that .NET shops sucked, as did a lot of my peers at university. Then I started working at one, and found that C# is a nice language, Visual Studio + Resharper is a joy, and that if you follow sensible architectural patterns you ca

No, I think you've misunderstood. What they're saying is that you can take a JPEG compressed image, decompress to raw pixels, and then recompress with JPEG more efficiently (if you're careful, no specifics on how this is done

I think this is a fair article and it echoes a lot of my sentiments. Something is going wrong over at Apple. No, they're not going to go out of business soon, but I think the sheer volume of criticism they've been receiving (not j

Unless you're gay, a woman, or part of a minority. Then your situation is that the leader of the free world is at best openly dismissive of you, and at worst actively encourages hate towards you.

This refers to out of spec cables, not the incorrect type of cable. As long as your cable is within spec, you wont have issues.

The point of this post is that even though the regex behaves correctly (input x produces expected output y), you also need to consider performance constraints. Without fuzzing, it's going to be pretty difficult to come up with enough t

But there's no depth to the game. Yes it has a very low learning curve, but there's really very little progression. Even casual players get sick of a game that doesn't progress. At least candy crush gets a bit harder and intr

Ok, the 'function' part is not useful. And perhaps C was a bad example. Let's say it's Python now, and for some reason I'm still returning 0, -1 or -2. Then 'statusCode' would be a good name for the variab
