I’ll add an example to help get across how the regulations have changed: If someone calls me pretending to be my bank and tricks me into giving them enough details (passnumbers etc) to move money out of my account, or persuaded me to author

If the bank satisfies a court with evidence to show the customer committing fraud, then the customer won’t get their money back. Just like if the CPS satisfies a court that someone committed murder, prison will follow even if the person did

To add flavour in the guise of figures: The largest city in the UK is (Greater) London, population ~9M. This is an outlier. The next largest is Birmingham, population ~1M. The smallest city (by population) is St Davids, population ~1800.

In the UK at least, the regulations cover the third category i.e. where you can't demonstrate fraud, but neither does the bank have reasonable grounds to suspect you acted fraudulently. From https://www.fca.org.uk/cons

Uh, that list is most definitely tongue in cheek. The only one that really holds is “not bad”, which is an idiom that does translate into some other European languages (“pas mal”).

The source article ( https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/tenant-fined-100-000-and-... ) states that the council also have a possession order, meaning the host is also losing their home.

Ghetto doesn't imply violence or crime to me. Per Wikipedia: "A ghetto is a part of a city in which members of a minority group live, typically as a result of social, legal, or economic pressure."

All residential customers have been switched, so yes (almost(1)) - EON are providing 100% renewable electricity. (1)Or rather, mostly renewablably-produced electricity, and have agreed bought the renewable rights to some other suppliers

You don't believe there is enough renewablably-produced electricity to meet the demand for certificates? I suspect you might be over-estimating the demand for certificates!

I'm going to say that study has a serious smell. I can't read any of the detail (no access), but look at the example graph for Danish mothers. It suggests that in 1965, the average time spent by a non-university-educated mother o

A quick note on this: Appeal to the building owners / maintainers for unplated, unpolished brass handles. The copper in brass (or other alloys of copper) is antimicrobial. Obviously the effect isn't immediate, clinical trials su

Five kids is an edge case. Besides, it's impossible to shuttle five kids to different places simultaneously by car without five parents. Not so with good public transit.
