As an immigrant coming to America, honestly the most shocking and surprising thing (apart from the state of homeless in San Francisco being tolerated as normal) is the medical care expenses. How on Earth is it that I can walk into a doctor&

I went to the peak of Mauna Kea at night once and it was probably the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen. I don’t think turning off lights in cities is particularly high priority though. I do know that once there was a power cut in LA I th

Thank you! Yes, it worked well for me, but I can't help but think the real intention of the visas is just to bring "extraordinary people" to the US. Saying that, I have no idea how to devise a fairer criteria to judge that (b

Every sentence you wrote is true, and you're only bringing up politics to respond to someone else who did, yet you're the one who's receiving downvotes.

I think it's way too paranoid and impractical to seriously have every single thing homegrown. No Zoom, no Microsoft, no Apple, no Google, no Intel or ARM chips. It's just not going to work. It's not even clear to me that woul

All of Zoom’s security team is based in the US to be fair. I don’t really agree in general that the X-conference should use X-software.

The Zoom security debate has been hashed to death on HN lately, but Webex for example patched some RCEs only a couple weeks ago. I’m not fully convinced Zoom is objectively less secure than all the other alternatives these days. They just

Oh right. I hadn’t heard of him so I just read his words without context of who he was. To be honest, we should all try to separate the author from the words.

I know. Also saving $0.01 after all expenses per month isn’t great either. I at least gave the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe he meant FIRE and the 4% rule eventually. But still, this is all kind of obvious and the story doesn’t see

I don’t mean to be rude but I am genuinely confused why this is interesting? The author is saying: “to be rich, save more than you spend”. Isn’t this obvious?

You’re kind of nitpicking here. It doesn’t matter how much the expense is: the point is that you can use a credit card to buy time interest-free before you pay off the expense with stock/paychecks/whatever. Regardless of what the

I'm not suggesting to pay credit card interest. I'm saying you can cover any emergency expense with a credit card which buys you a month, and then you might have ordinary salary or time to sell your stocks before interest is due.
