> It's easy to throw stones but what else do people want from Meta? Exactly. However, I think their AI play will need to come into fruition - AI as a service will need to be their second cash cow before anything Metaverse

Disclaimer, I'm in the minority of people that's long Meta's vision into VR and own a good amount of Meta stock. I truly believe that there's like a 95% chance that Meta builds a great product but it hemorrhages money a

Yep. As another user pointed out, privacy tooling is a very hard problem across a large company. When you have a cloud platform, you're especially incentivized to build a robust solution for this. I would imagine AWS and Microsoft also

I think more so the precedent it set. Not switching on ~and~ not growing nuclear. It wouldn't be too ridiculous for Germany to be producing 30GW from nuclear by now. That's a 22GW spread from what it is today which isn't negl

?? There's a handful of people in the world with the level of insight into amazon's internals as Jassy has. And compared to most in the article, Jassy's comp is very shareholder friendly. He's paid 99% in RSUs - his inco

Same and also long INTC - Pat has been known for a while to be a very competent leader. I think the vertical integration that intel has will be extremely valuable in the next decade.

Hmm, maybe I'm just ignorant of what's out there, what company gives out 200k sign-on and a linear stock vest? I'm mostly using an example of an SDE 1/2 (hence 200k offer) and for the most part I've only seen Amazon

For what role/company? A 200k offer implies SDE 1/2 and a 25k sign-on is probably median for that, even big tech. Of course there is Meta giving insane sign-on but for the most part it's around 25k

If Amazon and a standard tech company both gave ~200k offers with a 100k base they would look like this: Amazon: 100k base, 250k stock over 4 years (5-15-40-40), ~175k sign-on over 2 years Other: 100k base, 400k stock over 4 years (25-25-25

Exactly what I was going to say. "Friends don't let friends use us-east-1" - us-east-2 will be a huge spot for computing in the coming decade.

I agree, but is Twitter really suffering with any engineering problems? I generally would like to see a CTO come in charge but here's a unique case where someone from product might be more suitable.

I think the point is the articles are often extremely derisive and therefore hypocritical when finance or <insert any other high-paying industry> companies don't receive the same attention if at all

Concerning the promotion thing, I hear this a lot from Googlers but isn't it the same everywhere else? Most tech companies (big tech at least) will promote on product achievements, not maintenance.

This is the whole point of open source. Every contributor to something like Kafka or numpy is not expecting a cut from the thousands of companies that use it.

Better is subjective. It most likely doesn't have the audio fidelity as the headphones OP mentioned, but something like Transparency mode is such a great feature for me. The end product experience doesn't always correlate to exist
