I was wondering about that. When you go to the Our Machine web page, it shows the EULA having been updated yesterday, which immediately made me suspicious.

The modeling in iRacing is really striking in that way. It's good enough in practice that driving in the sim is extremely convincing, which makes the odd methods of exploiting the physics model that much more striking. I saw a video a

They're all over Kurosawa's filmography. Check out Yojimbo for some striking examples. Really, just check out Yojimbo; it's a lean, fun, funny samurai-noir romp. (As a side note, I always liked the sly nod in The Last Jedi to

Naturally! "This is bizarre" is referring to the commercial decisions leading to this point. They seem to have chosen a hard market to crack, and then cornered themselves before even reaching the starting line.

The weird thing is, even at the worst, I didn't really have trouble getting my hands on a GPU in that price range. I threw together a basic "play Red Dead Redemption 2 and racing sims" PC for my dad a year ago, and had no pro

This seems absolutely bizarre to me. If you're a) going to enter the low-to-middle end of market and b) do so decades after the major players, you really need to differentiate yourself positively. As a customer, getting "Good enou

Tone and semantic content are inseparable, whether we want them to be or not, particularly in damage control situations. I can envision ways of writing this article that I would read with a much less cynical lens. In particular, I find the

Glad to help! Posting about this inspired me to review all the calculus that I've barely touched in a decade, so I checked out a library copy of Apostol for myself :)

The tautline hitch is, after the square knot, probably my most-used knot outdoors. It's just versatile and adjustable. I know people say there are usually better knots for various jobs where you can employ it, but throughout all of Boy

There are lots of cool options, depending on what you want to do with it. If you're interested in rigorously proving how calculus works, starting from the structure of the real numbers, I hear nothing but fantastic things about Spivak.

I'm a big fan of Herstein's exposition. The text is plenty rigorous, without too getting bogged down in formalism, and he also manages to come across as personable and funny in a way that doesn't feel condescending. The peopl

"Topics in Algebra" is fantastic! It also is in print, if you don't mind paying roughly $240 for a print-on-demand paperback. It's an obscene price, but it is available!

Growing up with PC games, I was always fascinated by wargames as a genre. It seemed like its own little world, largely disjoint from the rest of PC gaming, likely owing to its genesis in tabletop gaming. My understanding is that pretty much

I say this as someone who worked on another Eclipse SWT application that I think is very good, is still in use, and that I am very proud to have worked on, but the SWT UI is the one thing I absolutely hate about Ghidra. I feel like many asp

Thanks for catching that! The core point still stands, though, I think that approach is customer-hostile and entirely at odds with the sort of customer service I expect from a company offering a subscription.

I really like IdaPro, but this guarantees that I move to Ghidra. I think the worst part though is the bit about prohibiting future re-downloads for users who bought perpetual licenses in the past. The sort of company that pulls that nonsens
