Go would probably be my favorite language if it just had a few more features around functional programming. Specifically around immutability and nullness, and maybe exhaustive switch statements. Then it just might be perfect. At work we use

The difference is scale and intent. A mom and pop store owner “remembering” my face versus big tech tracking is like comparing a nosy neighbor to the CIA. One of them might peer out their window, the other will infiltrate every aspect of yo

Does anyone know when the Geely Zeeker and Hyundai Ioniq5 will be ready? I know the Zeeker is doing road testing already. I’m not sure if the ioniq5 is doing road testing yet. With all of these new cities being announced they must be gettin

There are some exciting (or terrifying depending on your perspective) developments in the “lab grown/cultivated” space. I had a chance to have some WildType salmon the other day. The costs are still way above wild caught or farmed salm

Are you sure? I am talking about 60 and 70 year olds who can ride a non e bike 50+ miles without stopping, but who need an e-bike to ride 50+ miles at the same pace as their younger friends. How is that person not athletic? Sure they aren’t

A lot of comments are casting doubt on why “athletes” would be interested in this product. In the bike world, electric pedal assist bikes have become very popular. I have some family members who are avid cyclists. They do 100+ miles a week.

Oh okay that makes sense. Yeah I misunderstood your original comment. I was comparing 48vdc to 24vdc and 12vdc, not 120 or 240 ac.

What is the safety benefit of 48v? I am not an electrician, but I just finished diy/installing a 48v system, and when I was doing some research I read the opposite. 48v is *cheaper* since you don’t need as thick wires, but *more danger

I guess things are DB dependent. Spanner for instance not only recommends using uuidv4 as a PK, it also stores it as string(36). Uuidv4 as a PK works fine on Postgres as well.

The IEA (2024 WEO) has coal peaking in 2027, and all other fossil fuels peaking before 2030. Historically the IEA has vastly underestimated the growth in renewables. The 2025 report comes out soon, so we will see if anything changed in thei

I'm curious what they will come up with. For smaller companies, leetcode style tests probably aren't the best, but for large companies that hire 10s of thousands of devs, leetcode style tests have a lot of good qualities. People w

Might be the form factor. I think most of the big companies have moved away from 18650 cells. The cheapest full packs (not cells) in the US are $800 for 5kwh. Search “Server Rack Battery” on eBay, amazon or alibaba. These things are way che

In addition to food being much tastier than ever before, it’s also much cheaper. Despite current inflation and cost of living concerns, we spend far less on food than any time in history. Food in the 1960 was almost twice as expensive as it

The word for this is sortition. It does have an interesting history. I like the idea, but I'd want to see it on a smaller scale before committing to it. Maybe a city or one of the smaller states. https://en.wikipedia.org

Even if they bypass the NRC by having the DOD build/regulate the plants, I'm just not seeing how any nuclear gets built in the US when natural gas, solar, and wind are so damn cheap. Unless the feds pay for the whole thing, nuclea

I’d be open to making a prediction (on longbets.org) that in the 2025 to 2034 timeframe, more solar, wind, and batteries get deployed globally than any 10 year period of your choice for nuclear. And if you want to limit that to winter time
