For some reason, I really enjoy showing this slideshow to people -> http://blog.menfin.info/Presentations/20120709_Golang_introd... ... it is short, gets across a lot of the core ideas very quickly.

The list of cool things Go doesn't have is a darn long one. They opted for simplicity at lots of points. I think it is worth noting these were decisions, not necessarily oversights. There are a lot of great languages that end up mostly ac

Unlike C, Go isn't overloading what is returned, it has an extra param, and the language has been baked to handle doing like initialization and checks in single line if statements. It does force the developer who might actually have a clue

I suspect unless someone gets real exciting about this and modifies one of the toolchains, this won't happen in the near future. You can do (1) with some ugly syntax. Regarding (2) and (3) -- I know some projects are happening in both tho

No need to fork, it puts a copy of those libraries under ./src, so you always have a sealed (hermetic) referentially complete copy. You don't bet your production software on things randomly downloaded from the internet at compile time. Thi

This is one of the worst analogies I have even been exposed too. It is a straightforward issue, we don't need an analogy to grasp it, it was almost explicitly designed to muddy the waters. It did a good job of hiding circle reasoning, logi

First of all, I don't think it is my responsibility to ensure contractors are paid X, that is their responsibility, they set the rate. I decide if I think their skills match their rate. I can't decide what is "good" medical care for them,

People are advocating Go because it delivers. It has great concurrency primitives (channels), it is "boring" language syntax wise, and it is fast. Beyond that, it deals with a lot of the 'ugly' things around the edges of other languages.
