It's spelt out in the article, but be aware that Guix as a distro will give you a libre kernel, so no blobs. I am afraid it might not work with nvidia or AMD GPUs, as well as some wi-fi adapters (there's the cough non guix pr

I haven't read the whole essay (stopped at "In detail"). So far, I agree with most of what Lennart said, it matches my analysis, except perhaps this: > 3. The OS configuration and state (i.e. /etc/ and /var

I think it helps against dust getting stuck inside though. Also, more ports on USB-C make for better "alternate mode" functionality, where some data lanes are re-purposed (with an analog mux) for another use, like displayport, or

I have broken at least two female USB-A ports, with a cable pulled sideways tearing the inside tab off. Luckily, this always was on motherboards that had a spare one just next to it. In later revisions (at least starting with micro USB, per

I would really like to see some projects that leverage SVC, as I haven't seen a single example (and ffmpeg doesn't support them).

Thank you for the perspective! I guess such solvers would be quite easy to implement client-side with some webassembly. Another OSS re-creation I've had fun with lately is UnCiv. Though unfinished, it's quite good already.

Any chance this could be integrated with OBS? To select filters, show previews, etc. Going forward, I wonder if OBS will offer pipewire or gstreamer streams (if those are a thing) for consumption by other apps?

It should help on low-power devices, and with power consumption. In theory at least. Moreover, it's a must if you want image support (I saw this terminal emulator supported sixels, opened an issue about the kitty protocol).
