Babbage designed a computer almost 200 years ago. We need people to be working on moonshots. A lot of them will fail. When one finally succeeds it pierces the veil of "just in time" capitalistic motivation. The financial incentive

The most discouraging pattern is down-votes on reasonable comments without any feedback whatsoever. Before a person can down-vote they should be required to leave a response OR to up-vote an existing response.

Wow. That was an awesome video. Thank you. I didn't know why the top had a neck. Further efficiency apparently. He has an excellent explanation of the two-mode pull tab towards the end. Direct link: https://www.youtube.com&#

I think the bias you're criticizing is teleology. [1] I suspect we have something akin to a Purpose Co-Processor. Further that I'm using said co-processor to annotate it as such. The inclination to trust these annotations is intui

The rest of the world (not us) just wants a user interface that's consistent. People need the use of their computers nowadays. They build their lives on top of them. Sweeping that out from under people without asking is NOT ok. Many

This is so strange. It's like the OS team is in another universe. The rest of the company is nailing it.

> It's globalists and internationalists that circumvented democracy. You're usually full of rock solid arguments and facts about how the sky isn't really falling. That was a real bummer to read. :(

I should have said the implementations of GraphQL have similar problems. Since it's just a query language you can implement your own server with limits. Facebook is ultimately just punting on this problem but the declarative query

GraphQL has similar problems. It seems somewhat inherent to batching solutions.

It said I was posting too quickly (regardless of where I tried to post) and I hadn't posted anything in over 45 minutes. Maybe it goes up exponentially or something and I've just never run afoul of it before.

I agree. It's an aggressive gambit. Fix this or you're X (bad thing) and people will hate you. That being said, people have a tendency to lean on the crutch of intentions. Which is itself just a more subtle gambit. It's accep

This is some pretty blatant elitism. A domination loop is utterly apparent in your comment. As is typical, it uses it's consequences to justify it's continuation. Success is a fundamentally relative designation. It basically means

Well it is the product of a world class design firm. Even if it was a mistake to have a mesh seat they got most everything else right. But it's telling that the Herman Miller Embody (successor to Aeron) has a real seat.

They're terrible chairs. A mesh back is nice but you need a proper seat. The Aeron cuts off circulation to the legs. It's also about 5x overpriced. I just upgraded to a low end model from a no-name brand. [1] It's honestly
