How is the car saving the passenger by driving through the crowd? That seems like an entirely imaginary scenario. In almost any real world scenario the solution is going to be to apply the brakes and come to a stop.

I agree, driver monitoring should absolutely be a core part of self driving systems. This is something that George Hotz (Comma.ai) is getting right, and Tesla is getting wrong. The problem is that Elon/Tesla has the hubris to think tha

Yes, those (very rare, mostly hypothetical) situations are trolley problems, but OP was making an entirely different argument, referring to self driving as a whole being a form of trolley problem. I think the concerns of self driving “moral

This is a trolley problem as much as seatbelts and airbags are. The number of people who get into car accidents is staggering, and it’s certainly not just drunk and tired drivers. Drive assist features like lane keeping already make driving

To be clear, human driving that is augmented by “AI” (lane following, collision detection, blind spot warnings, etc) is much safer than human driving alone. I

Good question! There are a few things. First, you can’t make a table that doesn’t have specifically typed vertical columns, which means a bunch of layouts just aren’t possible (you can kind of fake it with all text columns, but it gets mess

Yup, that’s how they present it, though in reality it’s pretty clunky as a project management tool, and you’d almost always be better off using a purpose-built solution. Notion makes a decent tool for a personal/organizational wiki but

Along the same lines, the fact that they don’t have any simple inline tables that aren’t “databases” is annoying. Sometimes I don’t want a database or a spreadsheet, just a simple inline table with a few columns.

Seeing websites as just being a tool to get you to the thing “that does matter” is a shame. There’s a place for that for sure, but that’s all the modern web is now. I miss the time when the site itself was an expression of the person who ma

There’s nothing wrong with exclusives. They aren’t any more “anti-consumer” than first party titles (like Valve’s own Half-Life, Portal, etc)

Why would they choose 12% and not 25% or 20% then? Either of those would be better than Steam. Calling exclusives “anti-consumer” is basically nonsense. Exclusives have been a mainstay of the gaming world for ages. The actual harm they caus

There should definitely be efforts made to figure out how to tax those billionaires (and there are!), but that doesn’t mean that those making $400k shouldn’t be taxed way more as well. Let’s be honest, your life won’t change in any meaningf

You can’t just boil an entire life down to a single metric like being happy/content. Many things (like freedom) may even decrease “happiness” yet also have deeper value.

Oh please, now you see yourself as persecuted by the “woke orthodoxy”. Do you really deny that you have privilege? You’re both white and male, aren’t you? The way you talk actually says a lot more about you than you’re aware of.

The word “civilized” is doing a lot of heavy lifting for you there. White supremacy is still very real in America and throughout the rest of the world. The idea that you’d brush off someone asking about white supremacy in the same way as a

If someone asks you “do you denounce white supremacy?”, and you stay silent… many people (myself included) would see that as a form of endorsement. I don’t need any additional context, and I don’t see it as being any kind of logical fallacy

There are certain issues (like this one) where silence has historically been used as a form of endorsement. It is certainly not irrational to perceive it as being an endorsement.

I feel like you have a misunderstanding. Most of the work of a D&I group like this is pushing for diversity and inclusion issues in their workplace , not in the country at large. And why shouldn’t they? There are places and organizatio
