False equivalency. The left at least advocates for inclusion, and asking your workplace not to discriminate is not "just as bad as" saying women shouldn't be able to be engineers.

But a correlation between income and race might be detected and used by the system as well, making it at least partially racist. Maybe no better than humans today but we should at least aim to make our AI not overtly racist.

What's ugly is only attractive men getting funding regardless of substance. Like a beauty pageant.

We need legislation to put limits on what Google can do with said data. Until then, these tools should not be left on the table.

Not talking about race has been the status quo in tech. Only in recent years have people even brought it up. To think that not talking about it further will cause racism to not exist is the fantasy.

The point is to not ignore racism by pretending it doesn't exist.

Most programming is about experience these days ("make this webapp and connect it to a DB"). If someone can demonstrate the basics in a bootcamp, don't see how they couldn't learn on the job and after work by stackoverfl

Whether this is "Strong AI" or not is a discussion that might make a good paper in a philosophy journal. Computer science alone probably can't tell you if this method can truly "understand" the text. Science works b

Some algorithms are smarter. The computer system that figures out how to book flights for millions of people every day is quite intelligent when it comes to that specific task. The problem is, that intelligence is more like an insect's

Allowing customers to look like they are surveilling other people was a radically Orwellian-seeming move. It amazes me that Google was OK with this from the beginning.

How feasible would it be to run this neural network algorithm on a single machine? Have you thought about generating images by flipping the model? This is really great work. This area may be the final step needed to bring us "Rosie the

I'm not sure what you're arguing here exactly. If you're white you're in the racial majority. If you think having darker skin means someone is "100% quirks and doodads" then obviously I wouldn't want to ha

Kind of in bad taste to answer one story of racism with more racism. Also, making a work environment more inclusive for minorities should not be as hard as playing Peter Dinklage against Yao Ming.
