My previous employer was a company doing hundreds of millions in revenue per year built almost exclusively on ppc advertising. I think the question is not whether ads work, but when and in which cases do they work.

There are large PHP production applications out there that can't easily be rewritten overnight (e.g. Facebook's frontend), a better PHP parser is a great improvement for those cases.

If I had money in bitcoin I'd find this movement terrifying. It is not correlated with broader economic movements or the inflation rate of USD, and has all the classic hallmarks of a bubble, including true believers telling everyone i

Well it's built on top of Linux so it would only make sense. Plus they seem eager to get people to hack it, so why not? Can't hurt their business either way, they still own Steam as a store.

Redis is very much proven, tech giants are using large redis databases for quite some time now, see e.g. Instagram or StackOverflow. Maybe go with "Modern, proven technologies"?

This is why I'd like to see APNGs catch up. There's a huge difference between 1-bit and 8-bit transparency, dithering and resizing would not come anywhere close to simulate this.

This isn't "less evil" either, this is taking advantage of the unaware visitor resources without his consent; if I found a site doing this I would think it's downright malware.
