They can rename it whatever they want. People had a feature for free, now they don’t, because Tesla wants money. “But it’s better…” only if you pay. If you don’t, still gone. What else matters? I see nothing wrong with them offering a cheap

The human being in this scenario exists either way. The AI does not.

They also don’t waste electricity, water, drive up the prices of critical computer components, or DDOS websites to steal their content.

What was a kind design to thank good contributors is now a lottery. Throw enough AI crap at enough projects and you may get a payout. The incentives fail in the face of no-effort flooding. They accidentally encourage it.

On the flip side I’ve been following him for a while on Mastodon. I’ve basically watched the AI crap cycle go from “this is a weird report, oh it’s fake” to “all the reports are trash, it’s so hard to find real humans in the flood” through

I’ve never heard a specific reason, but I fully suspect “it’s fine, why do you need that?” to be the answer. May be people who have never used HiDPI. Maybe they’ve seen it and don’t get the hype. Maybe they’re just penny pinching. IDK.

Out of all the places I would think would want fancy monitors to show off how fancy they are…

They stopped shipping computers that have less than that. They clearly think that’s the minimum that’s viable. Personally, I’m fine with that. It’s 2026 and I don’t understand why people are using 1080p monitors for work.

The thing I heard was always killing them was the ports coming loose from people plugging and unplugging things all the time. Could it have been that you were plugging and unplugging the MacBook? Obviously that should totally work. I don’t

I believe it was 2x only early on. But as you said it’s fractional now and has been for a longtime. The instant Apple wanted to use a panel that wasn’t 2x, the feature appeared.

The company I work at gives all new developers a pair of 1080p displays that could have come right out of 2010. It amazes me, and it’s so sad. They have no idea what they’re missing. I’m sure high PPI would pay off fast in eye strain. And i

Apple’s Pro Display XDR, which this absolutely competes with, is also 60 Hz. It’s $5000. Without a stand. There are rumors there will be a new version soon. Perhaps we’ll get 120 Hz. The refresh rate on these super high resolution monitors

It amazes me it’s so hard to find monitors around 210+ PPI. Glad this is one. That said I would be scared to buy this. I’ve heard so many horror stories about the LG UltraFine 5k and the ports breaking and then having to send it in for repa

Why would anyone ever DDOS them? They’ve been around for about three decades now, I don’t know if they’ve ever had a DDOS attack before the AI crawling started.

I don’t think they’re saying that’s actually happening here, just that it could happen and is accidentally incentivized.

My understanding, and I’m a layman, is it basically requires making new masks. And that’s not trivial. I guess you’d be doing that anyway with a brand new chip. But still probably easier to work with the tools/fab you know well. I supp

Not all of Apple‘s chips need to be fabbed at the smallest size, those could certainly go elsewhere. I’m sure they already do. Is there anyone who can match TSMC at this point for the top of the line M or A chips? Even if Intel was ready an

I think Google was withholding them unless Apple was willing to put the ads in. Apple is a very VERY different company than they were back then. Back then they didn’t have all sorts of services that they advertised to you constantly. They d

They switched despite Apple Maps having poor data for a reason: Google wanted to shove ads in it. Apple refused and to switch. Their hand was forced by that refusal.

Reminds me of The Country of the Blind by HG Wells. It’s about a guy who finds his way into a valley in a mountain range where everyone has been blind for generations. At first he thinks that he’ll have “a superpower“ because he’s sighted.
