There has been a move recently away from the "master/slave" analogy in a lot of projects for a number of reasons including that one, which personally I think is a sensible choice. Of course, you get plenty of people saying th

Ports have always existed. The change was to stop people writing "effect modules" which were the unsafe version of this where you could run arbitrary JS. The upside to this is that because ports work by message passing, it means t

The distinction would become rather clear if you call that function from other code, I imagine. In other languages things would happen, while here you would just get the return value to do what you want with.

Rather than conflating it all in a way that leads to misunderstanding, why not say "sure, calories in - calories out defines weight loss, but you need more than that to be healthy". The point stands that tracking calories gives yo

I’m not sure how what you say makes the parent’s post untrue. I don't know the details of insulin and fat storage, but at the end of the day if you are at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight—that’s physics. Your body can’t magic fa

That is the point of this page, if you see lower down the author is against the regs and this is an attempt to undermine them. Honestly, it's crazy—HN is the only place I see this kind of anti-GDPR stuff. Everyone I have talked to ab

The excuse I've seen most of them use is that users buy the cheapest possible SD cards, then when they are slow they blame the phone for being slow. That and an SD card slot is an extra weak point to waterproof etc... I'm assuming

The main issue with Elm is the glacial development pace. I understand why it is the way it is (it shows in how well designed what is there is), but it really does hurt as someone who wants to adopt it.

I recently saw a video about doing this - apparently the desert is actually a really bad option if we want to combat climate change - the core problem is that the desert currently reflects a lot of light from the sun. If we cover it with fo

The point stands no matter how you write it - those two things are not equivalent. Case in point, an agnostic fits one of those, but not the other. An agnostic does not believe in a god, but they also don't believe in "not god&quo
