Huh? I have a 5 year old, mid range android, and I still buy things online. Not everyone cares about phones.

So despite the new clothing, Germany is still a conservative digital dinosaur underneath, pretending to be cool and modern. "How do you do fellow Kinder?"[1] It's funny to me how German speakers thing it's cool and mod

It's so cool to see machines from an age when Germans still referred to technical things using their native language.

I'm somewhat into techno, and I cannot name a single artist from Berlin. If I zoom out further into EDM in general, I think of Paul van Dyk, but that's literally it. My knowledge is dated, but it does fall in the realm of "po

That would surely be impossible. TB is designed from the ground up to do one thing and do that one thing well. Postgres is a swiss army knife, and TB is a knife.

I think when historians look back on this period of history, they will have interesting things to say about journalists, their extra rights that other citizens are not afforded, their immense power, and their complete lack of accountability

Enjoying this article. It's an area of computing I am very weak on, and it's really good to see an intelligent formulation of the why and how of multi-threaded computing in a broader context.

Do you believe Israelis and non-Israelis are equal? Is the life of a Palestinian worth that of an Israeli?

Then it's a wildy disproportionate military operation. Israeli lives are not worth 40x Palestinian ones.

Let's be generous and take Israeli estimates: 10,000 civilians, excluding Hamas fighters. The initial militant attack took 253 people hostage. As reprehensible as that is, it's not worth 10,000 civilian deaths.

I'm not reading that as hate, I read that as criticising systemd in the context of a stripped down system designed to do one thing. I have systemd on the laptop I am typing on right now. Do I want it on some tiny embedded linux device?

My completely anecdotal and unscientific impression is that rust is on the upwards trends, mandate or not. Does anyone in 2024 still want to make a greenfield C++ project? I don't. Nothing really to do with memory safety, it's mai
