I use speech to text for Chinese a lot. Or a smartphone keyboard. Or I write on paper, scan it and send it to someone to type it out and edit it. Cool that you work on things like that, I’ll check it out when I get home!

Not since android.. 6? It defaults to the chrome browser. You can choose the other chrome browsers too (beta dev canary if installed, via the developer settings) and the web view might actually also be chrome. WebKit on android is from ages

That's.. also not exactly the real deal. It's a community fork of uBlock Origin with some patches and then became unmaintained. That's why I use AdGuard for Safari. https://itunes.apple.com/app/adguard-fo

That’s not uBlock Origin, that’s the icky one. I use the AdGuard extension for desktop Safari, and the app for mobile Safari, which use the content blocking feature of Safari itself.

I personally like desktop icons because it’s a tool. It’s my working directory, where I put files and order and stack them. Disks are shown there, as they too are temporary things that I currently do things with. Like a real desktop! Mayb

Do you have student-staff meetings? It seems some schools do that, and others have never thought of it. Basically the idea is that a representative of a group of students comes together with other such representatives and school staff (I do

That’s fine. It’s just a tick in Firefox to do so. Yesterday I made a readme intended for some Windows friends. Just a simple single html page. I set it to “Segoe UI”,sans-serif so it looks more like a Windows manual. If someone opens it o

$50-$100 worth of kit? The dongle is €10 (21% VAT incluis) in an Apple Store. EarPods with lightning connector integrated are €23 (again, VAT included) if you want the most easy solution on a like €600 minimum phone. If you have a phone tha

Just attach the tiny little dongle that comes with the phone to the headphones. Then say to him that he can put the charging cable there and also the headphones cable. Would this be too complicated too? You can get the EarPods with a lightn

What is or isn’t allowed on iOS limits the Android app? Of course iOS users are a significant amount, but they could do something for only a mere like 90% of their mobile user base. It’s just that annotations weren’t working with their mous

If this “normal users are stupid” thing is supposed to be in favour of Linux then it’s a stale argument.

This made me think that there are a million special purposes biscuits. One biscuit for teething children, one biscuit for stomach ache, a biscuit for graduation, and a biscuit for Lake District walks.

This in itself sounds like outrage, only you want to have a scapegoat be in prison instead of lynched?

Nice approach! Unless I missed something you’d still be having very few colours, a limited resolution, comparatively poor performance to an OpenGL rendered DRM output (as in, also a command line environment), and if you simply use deflate o

Thanks for the response. I will keep your comment with me for next week for a movie night. To other comments who might be wondering: I do not live in the USA, so I do not think I can find Eighth Grade at the library. I can find many books

Are those movies good or “good”? A book I can go to the library for and judge for myself, those movies require me to change iTunes Store, set up payment methods, keep an evening clear, before I can judge what might be a pretentious story wi

Thanks. Scrolled through the whole page to see if it’s a new distribution with interesting new tech, or just a desktop spin of something. Who knows, maybe they enabled some power management or browser hardware acceleration out of the box, w

The uploader then doesn’t worry, Flickr doesn’t worry. The internet archive might, just like you. Maybe you can help out over there?

Correct. iOS 11 devices can update to iOS 12, older devices are vulnerable.

I would say it’s normal; bound to happen at some point. That, or a mistake. That’s why we have peer reviews even for maintainers of mature open source projects.

The website could not be worse for mobile. There’s a bar at the top, at the bottom, the address bar won’t collapse, and to top it all off you can’t use reader mode to fix it.

That depends on your graphics card manufacturer and your motherboard. With my MSI parts I had to get a specially crafted GPU BIOS from an MSI employee to make it all work. I had hoped that situation had improved over the years.

I was surprised to read that this remote vulnerability is possible in 23 states. I thought that the United States prides itself on its democracy? How come voting machines are possible in a democracy?

It might be worth noting that the people who do say he’s harsh but fair are people who actually comment on his rants. When I see another on HN I scroll past it, because I’m not interested in the sensation. I can’t imagine I’m the only one.

I really enjoy posts like these. It’s pleasant to read and gives you some insight into what people do to get their idea materialised.
